Gin & tonic in a jam jar

Okay, this is really stupid, but it has made me giggle. I was on Instagram and I saw a reel of this lifestyle influencer and she finished her jam (Bonne Maman, of course) and she says, "don't rinse away the last of the jam...!" and instead she takes the jar (still all jammy) and adds gin, ice, fresh mint, a slice of lemon, tonic (Fevertree) and stirs it with a metal straw and sips this gorgeous summery fruity G&T in the shade of a tree... and it's all beautifully filmed and chic, but... CAN YOU IMAGINE??? With the crumbs and bits of marg scraped back, and all sticky on the outside and a blob of what you really hope is peanut butter lurking... hahaha. This is not something to try if you share your jam with your children.

I wonder if it works with other jars?

"Don't rinse away the last of the mayonnaise...!" [makes a rum & coke in the mayonnaisey jar]

For the crumbs and buttery mess you mention I have now started using a spoon for the jam. Would still be 😕about drinking from it.

I was out for tea the other day and my burger was on a big wooden chopping board. My chips fell off the edge. I felt so queasy at the thought of eating from it. I just kept thinking what if they've chopped a steak on here. Still it though!

I actually think it sounds nice but I don't put dirty knives in my jam jars 😆. I couldn't eat jam all covered in old crumbs anymore than I could drink gin

Damnloginpopup · 21/08/2023 07:30

Espresso and toast Martini anybody?

Actually, that could really work with butter.

CrapBucket · 21/08/2023 07:32

Pesto shots. What could be better!

I'd never heard the put it on the plate song, thank you.

With the crumbs and bits of marg scraped back

Stop being a heathen with your jam?

Using margarine is your first issue. We'll come to the rest in a bit.

Jam spoons! Not just for pretentious seaside landladies. Don't put your crumby knife in the jam, the crumbs make it go mouldy.

Do people actually watch this shit?
They must have a lot of time on their hands 🤣

It's lovely-I do it. I also rinse peanut butter jars into noodle dishes, marmite into stews and so on. Why do you have butter and crumbs in your jam? That's horrible!

BarbaraofSeville · 21/08/2023 08:18

Our jam never has 'crumbs and bits of marg' because we use a clean spoon to dispense the jam onto buttered toast because marg is not food.

On the matter of the jars, you want this jam from Aldi, because the jars are perfect for jam jar cockails and half the price of Bonne Maman. The jam is pretty good too.

I rinse out Nutella jars with hot milk for an easy hot chocolate.

(Not knife worries here, it's mainly eaten secretly with a spoon by various family members who think I can't tell...)
