ds Is turning 16 in January so we will need to apply for pip. He currently has medium care and low mobility elements. Nothing changed, he’s still he same. He has a blue badge, does this make a difference? Can anyone tell me thier experiences of moving from DLA to pip? TIA

Hi, I’m in the process now for my DS , who has Autism, he is currently on high rate care and low rate mobility.
im hoping his award stays the same, but it’s so stressful. I’ve sent quite a lot of evidence, but I’m not too worried how they do the assessment, they will see for themselves what DS is like.
I hope it goes smoothly for you

I've just started the process for transferring DS from DLA to PIP. I'm his appointee so did the initial phone call yesterday. The initial bit was a bit irritating as the advisor clearly had a prescribed script to follow so I had to repeat the same information several times to enable her to fill in her boxes. However it seemed positive that she asked if they could use the medical information they already have on file from his DLA claim, which they can link to the PIP claim, so I'm hoping that means less form filling when I get the papers to complete. DS currently received MR care and LR mobility which has been the same since he was 5. Claim is on the basis of Autism, Moderate learning difficulties and epilepsy. Im hoping the transition to PIP should be relatively straightforward 🤞

I am also my Son Appointee, they accepted straight away without any phone call or interview. I had letter to change him over just after his 16th Birthday, I made the call about 3 weeks ago, had the forms through just over a week ago, I didn’t have long to fill in the form, I’m thinking because of the post, but I filled in over the weekend and sent it Monday recorded delivery, received Tuesday, and I received a text message from pip on Wednesday night to say they were managing the claim. I sent in all the evidence again that he initially had to Dla (since 2020/2022) and more since then, his EHCP , reports, medical and assessment reports, diagnosis reports. DS is home schooled, we just had his gcse results, he could only manage maths gcse, it was foundation stage and unfortunately didn’t pass this so he had a very low couple of days. He rarely leaves the house, so he is always supported when I can encourage him. He doesn’t prepare any meals or anything for himself. He also has severe eczema, which is on his hands and feet, so this impacts on what he touches, and what he uses to wash himself. I dislike being negative about him because he is such a wonderful person. He has no friends and his sleep has been disrupted his whole life. I’m now just waiting to see how the pip want to do the assessment, or if it’s paper based/ phone call, f2f? I am also hoping it’s staight forward.

@Mindovermatter247. To update, we got DS's PIP award this week. I had a brief (10 minute) phone call from the assessor about a month ago, after which she said she had enough information for her report.
DS has been awarded Enhanced Care and Enhanced Mobility to be reviewed in 5 years. We've continued to be paid DLA in the meantime. All in all a fairly painless process, although the form itself was quite laborious. I asked them to use his existing records and the only additional information I submitted was about a medical condition that he's been diagnosed with since his previous DLA review. The whole process took around 4 months.

Hi all was wondering if anybody could help, my son turned 16 in December and like everybody else who has been through this process I filled in the forms to be his appointee, he has no understanding of money, if I tell him I have £50 to last me the week for food and things we need he would take £49 and wouldn’t understand that I’ve nothing for food, he is autistic and has a ehcp and goes to a sen school, I’m a mum of 4 and he’s the youngest, he doesn’t cook I have to bribe him to have a shower and he has REALLY long hair so I have to wash his hair and his top half, he has no understanding of personal hygiene and would live in the same clothes for months on end if I let him it’s actually a struggle to get him to change his clothing and I get verbal abuse every time I try to get him to change, he would happily wear things till they are rag, he’s never slept either and been on melatonin since he was 4, 10mg every night and still that doesn’t keep him asleep, I have to stay awake at night till I know he’s in a deep sleep as he’s been found in the kitchen trying to open cans with a huge knife, tried to cook burgers and bacon in the toaster and fused the whole house,
lile I’ve said I’m his appointee, im on a group on fb and I asked about the assignment because he won’t talk, he doesn’t even talk to his siblings if they call or me if he has a choice 😂 at school he takes himself away from others even in his class of 8 he sits outside the classroom where he has a desk, I asked on the fb group when the assignment happens as I’m his appointee will he have to speak as he won’t, a women msg me said he will have to they won’t talk to me and he will have to say his needs, he won’t, he doesn’t understand his needs or how different he is to his siblings, I’ve called pip they said I’m his appointee so it’s like they are talking to him, but like I said this women msg me of fb saying that’s wrong and he will have to talk
can anybody please give me advice or if you been through the process and how it was for u
TIA

Hi, I understand how worrying this is for you, I went through the same late last year, my child did not have to speak, I am his appointee and he was awarded the same amount as he was on DLA
i hope this helps

Notaclue1980 · 02/07/2024 08:36

My son didn't have to speak either and I am his appointee also.
He didn't need an interview, but they did phone me to ask a couple of questions about how he gets to his sen school ( he has transport).
My son sounds very similar to yours Countrygirl3001.
I applied last Feb and we received the letter to say he had got it in August last year.

Just wondered if anyone could help please. My daughter turned 16 over the weekend, had pip letter through today. I didn't put myself down as an appointee as feel she can manage money well. The only thing I'm worried about now is will they speak to me at all when I ring up? She won't speak to anyone new due to bad anxiety so I'm stressing out now incase I can't speak on her behalf. Also once they've turned 16 any dla payments due when waiting for pip decision are they paid to me or to my daughter as they asked for her bank details? Also has everyone had a face to face assessment as know this is something she won't attend even with me beside her

Jesslou37 · 25/09/2024 13:35

Forgot to say she was awarded dla until her 17th birthday which i dont get if they know at 16 they have to apply for pip. Weve only been getting dla since January so can they use the evidence I gave dla as evidence for pip?

Inlimboin50s · 25/09/2024 13:46

I had my son down to take the call but he missed it( they rang up on a school day at 8.15 and he was on the bus). He decided he wouldn't speak to them and didn't care about his PIP and if he got it. So I called and it took several weeks to sort out, through phone calls and a lady coming out to my home so she could ask my son if he gave permission.

So I'm now his appointee and he was awarded it,but he gets it payed in to his account.

Jesslou37 · 25/09/2024 14:02

@Inlimboin50s did u get dla before going over to pip? If she gets awarded pip I know the money will go to her but the dla payment due next week would she then start getting them until pip is/isn't awarded?

Caitlyn59 · 15/01/2025 19:35

How long does it take changing from DLA to pip to get a decision after they’ve asked for a report from the GP

Caitlyn59 · 15/01/2025 19:36

Hi all
is pip higher rates for 16year old or same as DLA rates if awarded
