EasyJet Cabin Bag

Crinklecutchips1 · 20/08/2023 19:03

Hi there - looking for luggage for EasyJet cabin - the free one.

I would prefer one with wheels. Has anyone had problems getting one on the plane because the wheels were considered to make it too big.

I like this one

And this one

If you look on Amazon and key in EasyJet cabin bag or case it'll give you the exact size measurements and suggestions. I got a small trolley case that holds loads on there.

I think @Crinklecutchips1 is trying to avoid paying for ANY luggage, by sneaking a cabin bag on which goes in the overhead lockers. That's not how EasyJet works. If you want a free cabin bag, it has to go under your seat.

Because it's really annoying when those of us who have actually paid, don't have room for our paid-for bags in the overhead lockers.

A member of cabin crew picked up my under seat bag and put it in the overhead locker.

Fair enough, if there was room, and a member of the cabin staff did it.

But I've travelled for work (EasyJet flying the most convenient route for where I needed to get to) and had luggage Early Boarding etc all paid for, & had no room in the overhead locker because of soft bags that should be under the seat, because people say they need the leg room. And the cabin staff are no effing help ...

I read it that they wanted recommendations for the small bag which goes under the seat? So the free one? Not the larger one that you pay for to go in the overhead locker? No sneaking that I can see....

Is it the fact that there are 2 different sizes; the small free one and the payable mini suitcase one that is causing confusion?

The free one is so small, I can't see why wheels are needed. My Longchamp le Pilage is too big according to the measurements, although it squishes in to the cage if I don't over fill it.

FreddiesTeeth · 20/08/2023 21:19

Could you get one with detachable wheels?

Shinyandnew1 · 20/08/2023 21:26

We flew last week with EasyJet. The woman behind us had a suitcase on wheels that would have met their old free cabin bag criteria but they were stopped and had to put it in the luggage checker box which it didn’t fit in. They told her she’d have to pay to take it on board-I think it was £48!

FarEast · 20/08/2023 21:43

Yes, I think so. EasyJet changed their costings so that if you want to take more than a soft bag which fits under the seat in front of you, you are charged (or have to upgrade the price of your seat or something).

I think it's because people were taking larger& larger cabin bags (for free, rater than paying to check luggage) and there was increasingly not enough room in the overhead lockers for everyone's suitcases.

Needmoresleep · 20/08/2023 22:36

Ryanair dimensions are smaller than EasyJet. We have invested in a Ryanair one, as it will work on both.

I would to avoid wheels as they add to the length. It is a small rucksack but with a bit of planning we managed to take what we needed.

rileynexttime · 21/08/2023 07:14

@Soontobe60 I was checking out your bag recommendation and came across this illustration. Must be a new genre of dressing that I've missed.

DaphneDeloresMoreheadRidesOn · 21/08/2023 07:14

When we recently flew with EJ everyone with a hard case carryon had to put it in the sizer. Several people had to pay and have it put in the hold as the flight was full.
we had soft rucksacks, they didn't even look at ours. Definitely they way to go

Crinklecutchips1 · 21/08/2023 08:09

Thanks for all your replies.
@AlrightJulia - you are correct - I am just trying to see what is allowed with the ticket that I have - and thank you for noticing that rather than like @FarEast assuming that I am somehow trying to cheat easyJet and other travellers.

My preference is for a wheeled case even if it means a little more space.

The bag she’s posted literally meets the requirements described by easyJet. What’s the issue?

Escapingtherealityoflife · 21/08/2023 08:10

I have a soft hold-all which fits under the seat and has enough room for a week away at a push. I can fit 2 changes of clothes and an extra top- assuming each is to be worn for 2ish days (coming home last day I don’t really care).

Obviously I meant a little LESS space.

There's a measuring device on the EasyJet app which you hold over your bag and it tells you if it fits or not. If you buy the case from Amazon you can test it out and send it back if it doesn't work for you. I used a wheely case on Easy Jet last week and it worked really well for me. They are very strict though. Everyone who hasn't got speedy boarding or hold luggage had to put their bag in the metal sizer. £48 per flight if it didn't fit! Mine was really tight but it went in!

Thank you - that's really useful- I will seek out the app.

We have a couple of the mini max bags and they're great. You can fit loads in them and I've never had to put them in the sizer as staff recognise them as being the right size.

I've also got a small 4-wheeler like the first ones you posted and it fits a surprising amount of stuff in, but not as much as the mini max. Looks smarter though.

Thank you- definitely worth knowing. Have you had any problems with your hard cases? And do you have a link to the one you have please?

mylittleprince · 21/08/2023 08:27

@Crinklecutchips1 I would be slightly wary with the second bag you linked that the wheels are not included in their sizings from that picture unless it's badly illustrated.

I also think you'll struggle to get a hard case like that under the seat in front of you. I have a rucksack like the one a previous poster linked too and it's perfect.

Lonicerax · 21/08/2023 08:38

I use a regular rucksack and squidgy /wedge it in front of me - feet to one side. Not sure how you get feet in with a hard cover.

enchantedsquirrelwood · 21/08/2023 08:45

Following for ideas - flying with BA rather than Easyjet, but want to take carry on only.

imho99 · 21/08/2023 09:13

I used this in May with no problems. Not sure if you can buy 1 instead of two.

youveturnedupwelldone · 21/08/2023 13:05

Easyjet are so inconsistent aren't they. I've flown with them to and fro 4 times in the last year and not once has my baggage been questioned, checked etc. I always have an extra bag too (a little one x body for passports that will fit in my under seat bag if needed). Not always speedy boarding either, half the flights we did and half didn't.

Crinklecutchips1 · 21/08/2023 14:05

If anyone is interested I bought this

aeroliteluggage.co.uk/collections/best-sellers/products/aerolite-45x36x20-easyjet-maximum-size-hard-shellcarry-on-hand-cabin-luggage-underseat-flight-bag-suitcase-45x36x20-with-4-wheels?variant=42888074363106

I already own the larger one from the days when the larger cabin bag was free.
Cheaper on aerolite website than on Amazon at the moment.

Thanks to everyone for your advice and comments.

Good choice. Aerolite are great.
