How to remove these plasters

plasterdisaster2 · 20/08/2023 14:05

I recently had stitches in three areas. The plasters are really stuck on there. Im due to take them off and replace in 2 days. Besides my skin being really irritated under the sticky parts, i have stitches and they are sooo stuck on.

Does anyone have any ideas how to remove/ what to use without the risk of going onto the wounds.

Thank you

Water or baby oil used very soaringly should work.
When DS had similar (he’s very hair) I help a damp cloth over the plasters and they just fell off

The clear parts are flush to my skin, literally feels like my skin and i cant get any edge up. I also cant soak them in water as i cant get the wounds wet yet.

Can you gently use a hairdryer to loosen the adhesive, OP?

That often works on stubborn labels on plates... not that you're a plate, of course!

@Hoppinggreen thank you. Ill try coconut oil on the sticky parts when its time. I have been picking and just cannot get the edges up at all ☹️

You can get little adhesive remover wipes for this sort of thing, very useful. I know it feels like it's absolutely flush to skin so nothing will get under it but it only takes the tiniest amount to start seaping and it'll be easier. Not the nicest but great dressings!

@CantFindTheBeat ill try a dryer too, thank you. I have one on my back which i can barely reach so god knows how im going to get that one!

They're hydrofilm plasters. Just peel them off. They're amazing!

Womblegreen · 20/08/2023 17:39

Rather than trying to pull them off try disturbing the edge by pushing from the edge towards the centre. (Like a rolling motion). Once the edge is loose they peel off easily.

You know, ive used zoff in my career as well, to remove transpore tape residue from skin AND microphone cables.
Surprisingly, when you work in theatre sound, you become an expert in medical tapes 😂

My husband recently had major surgery and was discharged from hospital with Hollister Adapt adhesive spray. It loosened all his dressings really easily and he says it didn't sting at all
Amazon sell it Hollister Adapt Medical Adhesive Remover, No Sting, 360° Spray 1.7 Oz

Olivia199 · 20/08/2023 18:12

@ASGIRC - You're a theatre worker? I'm an ODP!

Olivia199 · 20/08/2023 18:12

@ASGIRC - Ignore that, total brain fart. Whole different theatre.

Oblomov23 · 20/08/2023 18:13

You don't need anything. I use zoff for diabetic Libre2 etc. you don't need that though. After both c sections I had those plasters. You just very very gently peel them off.

Exactly! Mine is actual entertainment theatre, not operating one! LOL
But theres a bit of overlap, when it comes to 3M products! 😂

Seconded (not the career bit 🤣) I ordered my own ones of these from Amazon as the glue from dressings was driving me bats. My surgeon gave me a few to take home and I promptly ordered more!

AllotmentTime · 20/08/2023 18:50

Oh, I thought that would quote the picture. It's the Zoff alcohol & oil wipes that I was agreeing were good.

babyboyHarrison · 20/08/2023 21:18

I don't know about this type of plaster specifically, but I dip a q-tip in nail varnish remover and gently rub it along the edge and slowly start to peel it off when plasters on my kids are tricky to take off.

IsisoftheWalbrook · 20/08/2023 21:22

I use alcohol hand gel on ordinary plasters. Would that work on yours?

plasterdisaster2 · 20/08/2023 21:35

Thank you all for the contributions. Its a surgical dressing rather than a plaster so alot stickier than i ever could have imagined! I have ordered the adhesive desolver from amazon as recommended and will use that and report back. I have tried rolling/picking and i cant get any sides up at all. Just what you'd want to cover stitches after surgery but well hard to get off when it needs changing! Thank you all x
