Selling large and expensive things on eBay/Facebook

I have a wood burner, pipes and hearth to sell. It’s worth around £1250 and it’s obviously heavy.

I’m nervous about Facebook for the fake cash element. I also know that eBay is rife with scams.

How would you go about this?

So it’s been two hours since I’ve posted it on Facebook. Two sets of interest. One is saying she will send her brother around for it. No reduction in price asked for. Nothing about whether she will need a van etc.

Any advice much appreciated!

Take the registration of the car and a photo of the buyer

fake cash?
Anyway, just like if you put it in freeads, ask for bank transfer when they arrive as payment. Once they have inspected item & are satisfied with it.

Do you know how much it weighs, can you measure its dimensions? I would put that info in ad, anyway.

I once had someone turn up in a well crammed estate car, who thought they could also squeeze a wooden bed into it. Which they couldn't (not even dismantled) but... they only lived one mile away so I collared a teenager to help me load up, unload & deliver in our big car.

I always find with more expensive items that you'll receive a standard scam message saying how the buyer is too busy to collect so they'll arrange for a courier to bring you the cash to pay you and collect the item.

If so, run a mile!

It was dodgy! I initially said yes to PayPal but was still googling scams. There is one where they pay you (from a dodgy account) and then pay too much and get you to refund the difference. Somehow they end up with the difference and you lose everything. I wasn’t prepared to risk it so I said cash only. She said that she couldn’t do that something about a brother collecting. I replied that’s a shame but it’s cash only. She literally messaged ‘byee’.

Its just bloody exasperating.

Will definitely take the above advice on board when I get a genuine one. Well one I think is genuine!
