Alternative to using the hob

I'm looking for alternatives for using the hob, frying pan etc only access to one temp air fryer and microwave especially for sauce based pasta dishes things like that, that need mixing simmering and cooking. I am getting an air fryer given which is a one temp one and have access to a microwave (which has a high, medium and low) but this is it. I know air fryers are good for a lot of chips, chicken etc I'm missing on bolognaise, how to cook onions or pasta with a creamy sauce wondering best way to do this as missing out on loads of dishes ! Wondering if I can do some in air fryer then cook of on low in microwave? Any suggestions. Thanks

How long without it?

We do spag bol in air fryer, we brown the meat, then add pasta with sauce and water, stir every few minutes and you get a lovely sauce. We have a Ninja Speedi which has a sauté option for onions etc.,

For about £50 you can buy a single, plug in, induction hob from IKEA. Can be used anywhere there is a plug socket, including outside.

Our hob broke and we got by for a good while with the IKEA induction single hob mentioned above.

With the microwave for things that need heating up, and the single hob for rice or pasta (which could also be done in the microwave, but it gives you the option of 2 things at once), you should be able to manage.

And then after you don't need it any more, it's great for pulling out if you ever need an extra ring.

Slow cooker, plug in one induction hob, rechargeable saucepan?

AdaColeman · 19/08/2023 21:17

If you use fresh pasta, you can cook it in the microwave in 4 or 5 minutes. Put fresh pasta in a dish, cover with the sauce, cover with a lid, and cook, stirring halfway through to make sure the pasta is well coated in the sauce. You may need to add a small amount of extra liquid eg stock, to the sauce. This works well for one or two portions, but isn't very convenient for larger families.

Another idea is to cook gnocchi in the air fryer, put gnocchi in a suitable shallow dish, drizzle on a little olive oil and stir to coat gnocchi evenly. Then cook till pale golden. Serve with sauce heated in the microwave.

Lots of recipes for one pan oven-baked pastas and risottos - could these be done in an air fryer? I don't have an air fryer so I'm not too sure how they work or how big they are.

I'm thinking of something like this pasta recipe:

Oh yes @MotherofPearl one pan dishes for ovens would work perfectly ! Air fryer is at 180 temp

Oh good. In that case I'd try a risotto like this one, but fry the bacon in the air fryer (rather than a frying pan):

Orzo pasta is brilliant for one pan pasta bakes as it cooks quickly and easily in the sauce itself - whatever sauce that is.

Good luck OP.
