I put yoghurt in my porridge… is it not normal? On another note, I thought putting sprinkles on white bread with margarine was normal until a recent thread so I may not be the best one to judge!

@Whatsthepoint1234

that's fairy bread! Standard kids party food in the good old days. If you were making it for yourself now, it would be a little bit odd, but up to you.

Not gross at all. No different from overnight oats.

My colleague puts mango chutney in sandwiches. That's worse IMO.

Am I your colleague?! It puts cheddar cheese sandwiches on an entirely different level. Delicious.

NeedTheSeaside · 19/08/2023 17:00

I haven't tried it, but I can't see how it's any different to milk & berries 💁🏻‍♀️

I have overnight oats which is essentially porridge in yogurt 🤷🏻‍♀️

In my home country it’s also quite popular - we call it ‘hagelslag’ - for some reason British people seem to find it a bit ‘out there’ though!

One of my favourite snacks when I was a child in the early 1960s (UK) was "sugar bread", which comprised a thick slice of fresh white bread, liberally spread with butter and then liberally sprinkled with granulated sugar!
I also used to have Rich Tea biscuits with butter on them.

ImNotReallySpartacus · 19/08/2023 17:10

Yogurt on porridge is fairly standard. I like it with mango yogurt.

AdaColeman · 19/08/2023 17:11

Yoghurt in porridge isn't gross at all. Cold milk or cream in porridge is quite normal, and yoghurt is just a version of that.

Fairy bread is a Sunday breakfast treat here, usually made with brioche.

SplendidUtterly · 19/08/2023 17:27

It's normal.
Sometimes i put a dollop of that alpro soya vanilla custard in mine!

Whatsthepoint1234 · 19/08/2023 16:24

@metalmaude are you Dutch? My mum always used to put coffee in Brinta (a special kind of porridge) when we were sick as kids. On special occasions she’d make ‘bierpap’ which is porridge made with beer as a starter!!

wow! beer porridge! I am definitely trying that!

x2boys · 19/08/2023 17:32

Yep.this is overnight oats along with frozen fruit .

Cowlover89 · 19/08/2023 17:57

Not weird at all

Whatsthepoint1234 · 19/08/2023 19:58

@metalmaude it’s best made with proper bockbier!

spiderlight · 19/08/2023 20:01

I caught DH putting pesto in porridge once 🤢

nocoolnamesleft · 19/08/2023 20:02

Yoghurt in porridge sounds rather similar to overnight oats, so really can't see the problem.

bellac11 · 19/08/2023 20:04

Normal, as in its virtually milk isnt it?

And yes overnight oats are just a different way of cooking porridge

howrudeforme · 19/08/2023 20:04

Sounds right - nothing akin to cheese on seafood..
