I have appproximately 15 items listed. All decent / desirable top of high st type labels, including a few vintage items of great quality.
I jyst don’t seem to have had any traffic , no watches , 1/2 views. Surely there must be more custody there? Am I foi g something wrong? Loathe to use the promoted listings button as this costs more money
Any advice?

How long have they been up? Sometimes it takes up to a day for views to start growing (I have no idea why, but I've had this sort of slow start myself.)

Have you got lots of keywords, in both the title and the description? Brand name, type of item, size, colour etc? Get as many keywords into the title as you can, and then copy all that the description. Have you listed them in the correct category?

If they still look dead in a couple of days, I'd cancel the listings and do them again.

I sell a lot on eBay probably make about £1500+ a year. Make sure your title is good. If ur selling a dress from Next new with tags then add as much as possible:

BNWT White Vintage Linen Next Summer Dress size 10

I always do buy it now and then just reduce the price every week or so. I used to do auctions starting at 99p. It used to end up a great price back in the day. Stopped that about 10yrs ago when I was getting peanuts for brand new items!

If it's on at a decent price it should sell. Sometimes it can take a while even when u have 10 plus watchers and it isn't selling.

Make sure your pictures are good, helps if your lighting is good. If clothes that they are ironed and jot all crumpled. I find taking the pics on a bright day helps.

I do have a couple of items that I have on so cheap and they are designer kids items new with tags and they just won't sell and I don't know why. I get to a certain point and I either use the promoted listing rather than reduce the price again. If still not selling I give up and give it to charity shop. I'd rather they got a few quid for it than me for the hassle.

What price have you started them at? I’ve just listed almost 100 items - desirable labels and vintage - I price to sell, on for 7 days, I don’t use anything in the listing that will increase my fees. All have sold and had a lot of interest, lots have been bid up higher than I expected and consequently I have made more than I thought I would. I pretty certain that wouldn’t have been the case if I had started them too high.

I always find that you don't get many watchers until the last day or so, and bids are only ever in the last few hours. People don't want to wait so I agree with the poster who said use buy it now, I hardly ever bid on anything on ebay anymore.

I always found that listing things so that they end at a time when people would be browsing online helped ie: lunchtime, evening.

Have you tried Vinted? I've had more success on there lately although it can be annoying when people put in silly offers at less than 50% of your asking price.

abigailsnan · 19/08/2023 10:44

Have you thought of Free Posting and adding on the postage to the item cost ?

TetrapanaxRex · 19/08/2023 10:53

I skip over anything g that doesn't have decent photographs.

EBay is the pits now. I'm a business on there with 2K decent items of clothes, mainly vintage, listed. A year ago I'd have sold 100+ a week. Now I'm struggling to sell 20.
Depop or Vinted are the way to go. I'm actively transferring my stock.
People want offers on both platforms so take this into consideration in your asking price.

Yes, titles and photos are good.
Everything is BIN so maybe that is the problem

August is bad time for sellers. Only school stuff and a few summery items sell well in Autumn.

Women's clothing never sells well (easily and at high price) on ebay ime. Yet I think adult women's clothing is the majority of what MNers try to sell.

Toys will sell very well in November.

What have you listed.

lljkk · 19/08/2023 12:24

*before Autumn...

HeidiWhole · 19/08/2023 12:27

I sell a fair bit but find clothes the most difficult.
I never spend more money to list, but always use Buy It Now, auctions are just not worth the hassle.
Reduce price gradually and stuff will go. August is a terrible time for selling though.

Yes I think BIN just encourages people to watch the item, an auction gives a bit of impetuous to actually bid. I’ve had DMs on fairly recently (very rare and customised pairs), had a lot of watchers but no takers for the BIN, as soon as I changed back to auction they went and were bid up to a good price, one pair went for more than the BIN had been 🤷‍♀️. Despite what others have said, I’m selling really well atm and using only auctions. I have been doing it a long time though and have a lot of 100% good feedback (over 3000). Don’t know if that makes a difference. As I said before I also price to sell though because, although I would like to make some money, I’m mostly doing it to clear out as I want to downsize at some point. So for example one dress I knew was probably worth about £40-50, I started at £8.99. I doubt anyone would have bid at £40 but in the event it went up to £56. I also have to accept that sometimes it will backfire and might go for the start price.

FANTINE2 · 19/08/2023 14:47

I’ve been on eBay for years on and off.I’m also finding that people don’t really bother to leave feed back any more

I used to sell clothes on Ebay but after fees and things it stopped being worth my time.
Have you tried vinted? No selling fees and the buyer has to purchase a label, I've sold quite well in the last 3 months making approx £500 just clearing mine and DC's wardrobes.

FANTINE2 · 19/08/2023 19:16

Yes eBay seems to be the preserve of businesses/ shops, and resellers.
I have used Vinted too. Think I will be using it some more now!

Some things just don't attract views. Try to put in a word that people are likely to search for.
I swerve anything that has beautiful, gorgeous, stunning or lovely in the title.
I want something like 'Vintage M&S floral dress size 10" because I might decide I want a vintage floral dress, and I don't want to click on it to find that it's a size 6 or 16.

Another annoyance is something that's listed as something (e.g. brogues, Toast) but isn't.

If it's BIN I'll usually click watch and then forget about it.

I probably sell something like 4 items a week. If they don't go within a few weeks, they'll just hang around, but occasionally something will sell out of the blue.
