Root canal tooth- does yours flare up occasionally

So as the title says, if you have a root canal tooth, does it flare up occasionally?
Went back to dentist about 2 weeks ago, she said it was fine, no obvious infection. However, it's started hurting again, more so with warm foods I think. I'm at a loss with this tooth. Also annoyed at the moment as I'm going away Monday, and worried I'll have a week of toothache making the holiday a miserable time :(

No point to this thread, just venting I guess Sad

In answer to the question - yes. But it goes away in a couple of days, so hopefully your pain will too. Have a good holiday!

IDontNormallySayThis · 18/08/2023 20:58

Ah thank you, hoping this eases too.

Yes, had mine done years ago and it flares up a few times a year! Hope you have a pain free holiday.

Can I ask what you had done? I'm halfway through root canal treatment. I assumed it would be all sorted from now on but now I'm led to believe it will flare up! It's costing me nearly £1000 including a crown so I'm not impressed!

Mine occasionally does and I assumed I was odd. This thread is reassuring.

I used to have problems with mine. The dentist told me they sometimes fail. Infection can get in. Eventually I had to have it out.

BeeCucumber · 18/08/2023 21:15

Yes - mine used to flare up every month or so. I kept going back to the dentist nothing worked. I was about to have all the dental work taken out and quite by chance saw another dentist in the practice. She said that it wasn’t my tooth that was hurting but my sinuses. Apparently, sinus pain will mimic toothache. Could this be the cause of your pain?

stbrandonsboat · 18/08/2023 22:01

Yes, mine that did this eventually failed. I never get pain in my other one and it's going strong.

caringcarer · 18/08/2023 23:15

No, mines now been in place 6 years and no issues at all.

I get a nerve type pain every so often, it was only when my daughter became my dentist that we found out that the dentist who carried out my root canal treatment had left a tiny bit of the instrument inside my tooth.

XenoBitch · 18/08/2023 23:33

Mine is flaring up now. I had it done in 2010. But I think there is an infection. I don't have a dentist (no NHS ones here and I am on UC so private not an option).

IDontNormallySayThis · 19/08/2023 12:46

Thanks all, @Oblahdeeoblahdoe I had the initial root canal about 5/6 years ago. This was without crown. About a year or so ago, some of the filling chipped, so went back to have that fixed, that is when the dentist prepared the tooth for crown.
Before having the crown I didn't have issues, but I don't know if the two are related. I do think my bite was off a little too.

I also have Bruxism (thinks that's the correct term) and have pretty much 'eaten my teeth' as the dentist put it 😂😭 no one suggested mouth guard before, and only got that a year ago too, but I do think the damage is unfortunately done 😞

Hoping I have a somewhat pain free week, and then try and see a dentist again to see if there is anything.

The sinus thing might be a route to look into too.

Thanks for the info @IDontNormallySayThis I had an abscess in June and debntist recommended root canal treatment.

I hope your problem resolves itself soon.
