Is it too late to pick a career at 40?

I'm going to be 40 next year so kind of re-evaluating my life.
Is it too late to retrain?
I have 3 kids 6-13 years old.
I did initially train as a nursery teacher and have a degree & PGCE in early years education but it didn't really work with having young children and I don't want to go back to teaching.
Realistically I need to earn £30k.

What can I do with my life? Or is it too late now really?

No. You've got almost 30 working years ahead of you before you get your state pension.

I mean "No it's not too late", not "No don't do it"!

Definitely not too late! You've got more working years ahead of you've than you've had already. What about an education charity, they might need advisors who have education experience.

Do you know what kind of qualifications or re training you'd need for those?

Look for council jobs too. Civîl service attracts a lot of ex-teachers

You have a degree and a post grad. Make clear how you are open to complete any additional qualifications on the job. Dont let not having the ‘right’ qualification right now stop you applying.

No age limits on apprenticeships these days. Although the salary would be low for the first year or two it goes up rapidly in some industries.

Worth a look at the Apprenticeship website to see what's available in your area.

I work with apprentices and have several in their 30s who are doing very well.

Look into Apprenticeships near where you live. Thinknof it as paying for childcare when you are being trained. Some are 1 or 2 yeqes so obv. a big commitment. When we are talking "choosing one" all depends on your strong points and what you are good at.
Also look at feee bootcamps to get an ide where government thinks shortages are:

Find a Skills Bootcamp

Skills Bootcamps offer free, flexible courses of up to 16 weeks. You'll be offered a job interview with an employer once you complete the course.

Never heard of Skills Bootcamp but it sounds ideal.
