September Reset

Missrabbithasfaintedagain · 18/08/2023 13:17

Anyone else still feel like September is a good reset point even though they no longer go to school and follow the academic year? So If anyone does, I’m wondering what you are doing/planning?

-Im going to get myself a new daily planner
-Ive bought a cosy coat on Vinted for school runs
-Will try to really focus on my skincare and hair care this autumn winter as lots of days just in
the house over the summer so I’ve neglected it
-and going to try to be more organised, meal plan etc

The academic year starting has always felt so much more like a fresh start than New Years. Anyone else!?

I love that back to school feeling even though I haven't been in education for a very long time. I'd like to use the time to sort myself out a bit - eat better and start an exercise routine etc - but I suspect I'll just buy new stationery and candles and drink too many pumpkin spice lattes 😫🤣

Missrabbithasfaintedagain · 18/08/2023 14:14

Gingerbread candles from home bargains that come in the autumn are my favourite.

I'm a teacher, and although I'm back to work, I love September! The excitement of a new term and getting to know new children, autumn approaching, getting back into my routine (I lose it in the long holidays).
I put on a lot of weight after having my DD last year, so hoping to lose at least a stone before Christmas. Also can't wait to fill the house with autumn smellys!

C1239 · 18/08/2023 21:11

Following!

PositivePenny · 18/08/2023 21:42

I love September! New Year generally passes me by and I see this time of year as the time to evaluate and change.

There’s many things I’d like to start/do better with, mostly focussed on being more organised and productive!

lucysmam · 18/08/2023 21:42

Yes, me! I keep track so much easier using September as a starting point in the year. I do work in a school though, and with the very littlest children, so it's a lot of new and first things which I love.

I also find it easier to start planning my own things, and refreshing the house at this time of year - I'm 90% through the bathroom at the moment, I just want a new bin in there, and somewhere for loo rolls/spare toothbrushes etc to live (but need it to fit a specific space in there).

I also enjoy switching my decor a little, in line with the seasons. Nothing major but just little things like getting out my stag candle holders, swapping cushion covers for more autumnal colours), and a few pumpkins artfully displayed...sounds pretentious & a bit shit probably but makes me happy 😊

I'll start burning candles more frequently as the nights draw in too. Love sitting down after my shower with a candle lit & my crochet or book. Feels very cosy.

Absolutely love September by far my favourite month; maybe a bit bias because A) it's my birth month & B) I work in a university 🤗

GuffyTheDustBuster · 18/08/2023 23:27

I'm 55 - but i still feel like September is a fresh timetable and new pencil case.
Way better time for resolutions

DrunkenKoala · 19/08/2023 08:20

Yes, the last few years I’ve found myself having a September reset.

I’ve had a Sept to Sept calendar/diary for a few years now and find it so much easier to follow with all school holidays in it. I used to find it a pain in the arse filling in a new calendar in December whereas in August it doesn’t seem so bad.

I always get my hair cut in September too. Over autumn and winter I keep it in a shoulder length bob and start growing it in March so I can tie it up over the summer. Also can’t stand wearing make up (even mascara) in summer so I look forward to getting and wearing new make up in the autumn.

Also clean the house after letting it slide a bit over the summer with DC being off. Like to get the oven cleaned to ready for Halloween and Christmas baking/cooking.

TheThingIsYeah · 19/08/2023 08:27

I'm the opposite, I hate September as it reminds me of going back to school - even though I left nearly 30 years ago. When the calendar goes from 31st Aug to 1st Sep I feel down - for me it signals the end of summer and the nights drawing in, and only having a couple of days of freedom before you'd have to sort your bag out ready for boring school. Mind you I went to a catholic school, so enjoyment wasn't really on the agenda.

FourTeaFallOut · 19/08/2023 08:30

I love a September reset. It's like all the fresh diary glossy resolution of Jan 1st without the hangover.

Justrolledmyeyesoutloud · 19/08/2023 08:45

I agree op and bought myself an academic diary rather than a jan to dec one this year!!

DustyLee123 · 19/08/2023 08:49

Yes, I reset in September, I think its habit due to so many years of school/college for myself and the kids. But I think it’s a ‘getting ready for winter’ thing really. I suppose Neanderthal man, and those that came before and after have always had to prepare for the winter months.
However my preparation consists of things like buying fluffy socks from Primark, not stuffing a dead sabre toothed tiger in the back of my cave !

ilovesooty · 19/08/2023 08:59

No - as a former teacher I make a point of being on holiday every year at the beginning of September.

The thought of any form of resetting for winter is one I find depressing. I'm dragged reluctantly into it. Summer isn't long enough and we've hardly had a summer this year.

Minttee · 19/08/2023 09:21

Definitely feel like September is a fresh start. Great idea to get an academic year planner, off to order one!

EsmeeMerlin · 19/08/2023 09:42

I work in a school and certainly feel September is a time for us to get back used to a routine of work and school. Term time can feel really intense, certainly last year I was with a difficult cohort of children so I like to make sure we are organised and ready for a new term.

Debussydiscobeat · 29/08/2023 22:59

Just bumping this lovely thread because I’m in need of a September reset and looking for inspiration!

The last 12 months or so have been tough and I’d really like to try and have a bit of a fresh start.

RamblingRosieLee · 29/08/2023 23:02

Well failed my summer holidays objective, so hoping to make Xmas my new goal and will try and get fit for Xmas.

Needhelp101 · 29/08/2023 23:07

I'm in!

I have a lovely new notebook and pen and have splashed out on a few 'new' Vinted tops for my autumnal wardrobe.

Lots of projects to be tackled after a month off for August.

StJulian2023 · 29/08/2023 23:17

Yes! I’ve started a big sort-out already. Love September, SO much better than new year.

Oh, in case useful for anyone: I bought this planner and stuck it on the fridge so kids stop asking me what’s going on every 5 minutes and it’s already helped. I use two sections for ‘what’s going on’, one for kids’ chores/music practise (minimal 🙄😅) and one to show what’s for dinner.

I have a calendar for stuff further ahead as well still.

Debussydiscobeat · 29/08/2023 23:21

Definitely yes to fitness and projects! I have a huge house declutter planned, DD’s new bedroom to organise and redecorate, and some big exams to prepare for. I cannot just eat curry and watch Strictly for the next 3 months. Much as I would like to. Sometimes Autumn actually seems to give me a bit of an energy boost, so I’m hoping for that this year..!

WithIcePlease · 30/08/2023 00:03

I'm so looking forward to it!
It always feels like a fresh start 😊

Decafflatteplease · 30/08/2023 10:20

I've found my people!

Love the September vibe and back to school.

Love the nights drawing in, I always seem to take care of myself a bit better in autumn winter, take more time over skincare, get to bed earlier etc.

Love back to school and the simple pleasures of uniform all hung nicely in the wardrobe (we have 2 dedicated uniform wardrobes 😂)

Love walking the DC to school in the crisp days

Love a new academic diary I get the same one every year and one of my favourite evenings this time of year is filling in all the the dates and upcoming events. With a large family I have to be organised!

September also means harvest festival at church which is one of my favourite things!

Debussydiscobeat · 30/08/2023 13:26

@Decafflatteplease I feel better just reading your post!! How far is your walk to school? Would like to try this but would need to leave quite early and never organised enough!

Decafflatteplease · 30/08/2023 14:36

Aww thanks! It takes around 20 mins but I allow 30. Some mornings are chaos and we just jump in the car 😂. To be honest walking home is more likely as no rush then!
