Would you go to the GP for this?

DD, age 8 in a couple of months, seems to vomit fairly easily particularly over the last 18m, although we have had a gap.

I posted last year about it and it seemed to settle down in the new year but over the past couple of weeks she's had a couple of episodes again, but there's always something that could justify it ie. overtired, big meal. It's always during the night and usually once but sometimes twice.

No other symptoms, she's always needed her sleep and doesn't like to stay up late but doesn't sleep in late or nap, normal energy levels, normal weight and no loss, eats very well - too well I'd say! We are trying to encourage her to not rush her food and chew it properly, so this may be contributing. No diarrhoea or significant pains, just some tummy ache that is relieved after vomiting.

Anyone else's child vomit easily?

She may have an intolerance to something. I’d speak to the GP.

Is it in the middle of the night, or just after lying down?

My DD (she's younger though, she was about 3.5 when this happened) did this, and also burped a lot. The GP prescribed some gaviscon to take after meals and before bed for a while and it seemed to clear it up.

Alternatively, have you done a food diary?

I probably would see a dr about frequent vomiting. But they may ask you to do a food diary anyway.

My oldest used to vomit at the drop of a hat! Honestly it was a nightmare as he would just cough slightly after a meal and it result in a spew fest 🤢😂 Loads of phone calls from his school saying he had vomited in the yard whilst running around, he lost loads of days of school which was annoying as he wasn’t actually ill and would be completely fine when he got home. He’s got a very sensitive gag reflex, he’s much better now he’s older (11). He was also diagnosed mild childhood asthma which when he coughed when running would trigger a vomiting episode.

It's usually a couple of hours after going to sleep. I'm going to start keeping a food diary, but I don't think there is a pattern in terms of what she's eaten, more how much and how tired she is. Yesterday for example, we'd been out for a big lunch and she'd still eaten a normal tea. She'd also done gymnastics after her lunch and after tea we went out for an hour long strenuous walk, so I'm not really surprised about last night's episode!

My DC (8) has this too. Also gets stomach pains. He does gobble food though and likes food too much ( he is slightly over weight which we are trying to tackle).

It also seems to come and go and just when I’m thinking of taking to the doctor he’s fine for a while. I agree though suspect first thing doctor would say is keep a food diary.
