I have broken both my elbows...

I fell at the zoo yesterday, knew instantly something was wrong. Went to A&E, bilateral fracture of the elbow. So much agony at fracture clinic tomorrow, they won't cast them, can only sling one arm so both are in agony.

Can't brush my own teeth, wipe after the toilet, make a cuppa, my dh is doing all care for my 5 year old and me but he is back at work on Monday at 6am, don't know how to get him to holiday club when can't even feed myself.

Just a rant as I am so annoyed that I tripped over a 2, inch lip.

But how are you using your phone with no arms?

They haven't fallen off ...

It might be worth contacting Social Services - in my area (Norfolk) we have a reablement service which can provide up to 4 visits a day for up to 6 weeks. This service provides support with areas such as personal care, meal prep and medication.

How much compensation are you due for the fall as that would that cover care costs

HappiDaze · 18/08/2023 07:05

It's about 20K per broken arm you can claim for plus more as they're both out of action for a good 6 weeks

Turmerictolly · 18/08/2023 07:13

Contact social services - they can assess and provide short term carers.

Oh op, this sounds awful. I broke one elbow and it was bad enough. But two!

I hope your mum can get to you soon.

Just a thought .. could you get someone to (carefully) tape your arms with sports tape ? It’s designed to be moved and worn and might just provide a little bit of support or stop movement. You’d need to take it iff very carefully but I’m sure that could be done. Maybe find a good sports physio and explain the situation - they are used to taping bodies together !

That reminds me of a situation when I was in school where we were doing PE and one of the girls broke both her wrists as she tripped up over her own feet doing warm ups before we started playing badminton. Both wrists. She was knuckle to elbow in plastercast for about 6 weeks. Poor thing!

Poor you too.

Genuine question, why would the OP be able to sue when she tripped over a curb/lip? It's not like it was a spill that wasn't cleaned up properly. Not all surfaces are completely level, there will be steps, differences in height. Surely it's personal responsibility to watch where you are going?
Not a dig at you OP, I broke a wrist doing similar (tripped off a curb when I was chatting), it happens.

My husband broke both elbows about 3 weeks after I had my second c section so I had a 2yo, a newborn and him to look after just after a C-section - that was fun! He fell off a swing at the local park and put both arms down to break his fall Confused I had to ring my parents to come get us to drive us to the hospital.

He recovered enough to wipe his own bum and brush his own teeth quickly as he didn't want me to have to do it and obviously I had my hands full and was still recovering. I had to help him with getting dressed though and things like socks and shoes for about 3-4 weeks!! Luckily both our parents lived not too far away so I had some help but it was a hard time!

Hope your recovery is quick and smooth!
