Just after some advice please, no questions. Should you always go to hospital after being bitten by another person if they broke the skin and drew blood? I have cleaned it the best I can for now. Thank you

NHS says call 111 for a human bite

I hope you're ok and not unsafe Flowers

Infection is a risk, I'd call a medical professional for advice.

calmcoco · 16/08/2023 23:57

The issue other than immediate wound care is tetanus rabies hepatitis HIV etc, they'll possibly want to see you and ask about that.

I would want it checked myself.

Just pop along to your nearest MIU or UC unit

Stressedout1980 · 17/08/2023 00:06

I’ve cleaned it as well as I can. Hoping to go somewhere tomorrow to check it out. 111 signposted to A and E but going now isn’t an option. Thank you

Do get checked if there's any risk of transmission of anything and I hope you stay safe.

Puffypuffin · 17/08/2023 00:21

Are you able to get to a & e first thing OP. Can anyone help you if you don't have transport?

Mochacino · 17/08/2023 00:22

I work in ED and our protocol generally will start your Hepatitis jabs and you follow up with GP for remainder, make sure your tetanus boosters are up to date , booster will be given if required, and will cover you with preventative antibiotics depending on where said bite is. If it becomes red, hot, or swollen you need to get seen by a medical professional as soon as possible.
Hope you’re ok.

AmbleInAnnBoleyn · 17/08/2023 00:28

Try and get it seen to tomorrow. I hope you're okay.

I think technically you should. In theory for me it would depend on who has bitten me, I work as a teacher for children with complex needs and it is very common to be bitten, I went to hospital the first time it happened and they were unbothered, didn’t give antibiotics or anything just said to keep an eye so the only times I went in future were when i knew the bite needed stitches and when I had also broken a finger. Usually I just cleaned each bite and then kept an eye on it to be sure it didn’t become infected.I knew the medical status of all of the students I have worked that closely with though (residential setting) and that they didn’t have any known infectious conditions and I am up to date with all my vaccines (tetanus, hepatitis etc) and the bites weren’t usually very deep as they were usually through clothing. If I was bitten by a stranger/ somebody whose medical status I didn’t know or if the bite was very deep though I would go to hospital, it certainly doesn’t hurt to get checked out if you are worried but do be prepared for them to dismiss you and just say keep an eye on it.

I'm a teacher and have been bitten a number of times. If it breaks the skin we're advised by the school nurse to go to the walk in/minor injuries. I've never been given antibiotics just a good clean and the first time I was started on a course of hepatitis jabs. I'd go to the walk in center and get it checked.

GodspeedJune · 17/08/2023 00:45

Hope you are safe OP. Flowers

@Mochacino can I ask if this is the case for bites through clothes no skin broken?
a child at school bit me through a jumper didn’t break the skin. But it’ll bruise.
