Neighbours leaving food on plate

Mildly annoying and rather perplexing.

Our (new-ish) neighbours have taken to leaving a (paper?) plate of food on their garden wall. It looks like human food, but I’ve never actually got close enough to see if it is perhaps some sort of bird food.

Anyway, it’s attracting birds and I got woken up early this morning by a gang of squawking seagulls. I don’t mind bird feeders obviously but I’m not keen on having any more seagulls than necessary lingering over the area. They have relived themselves on my car already Sad .

Purely for context, they are foreign (the neighbours that is). I don’t know if this has any relevance to this habit.

It just seems really strange, I can’t think of any explanation for this behaviour. I don’t know if I would actually take any action.

@WhichEllie

I am smiling at your post. Much as I loathe pigeons and rats and go mad when people leave food out for them (well probably not intending to feed the rats!), if I lived in USA I would be sure to want to feed Hummingbirds and Raccoons and would have to restrain myself from feeding any bears after seeing cute you tube posts of bears cooling off in swimming pools!

Stop it now if ur getting sea gulls. Someone round here feeds them ( we are a fair way from the nearest sea ) and they have increased in amounts. Last count was over twenty five. They are loud all day. Wake me up in the morning. And cause a huge mess everywhere. We also now don’t get any other birds in our garden at all.

Ask them nicely why?

JustEatTheOneInTheBallPit · 17/08/2023 08:41

Let them see you out there, eating from the plate yourself. Deploy your best crazy eyes as you do it.

That should put a stop to it.

Some ladies throw leftover cooked foods onto the grass in the kids park in front of our house.

I saw one doing it once and asked her to pick it up and bin it as the food attracted rats and put the kids health at risk. Her own grandchildren play in the park ffs!

She did pick it up (including the tinfoil dish some was in) and binned it.

I still see food there now and then.

Fuck knows what they think they're doing.

One of our neighbours was doing this for a long time. Disgusting and attracted foxes and vermin. I contacted the environmental health officer in the Borough who wrote to all residents stating the fine for such behaviour. Not happened since
