Manchester visit?

Looking at going to Manchester with the kids going to do Legoland discovery. We fancy staying on the outskirts but are unsure of where. We have narrowed it down to -
Chorton cum hardy
West didsbury
Oldham
Farnworth

We will be going into Manchester but would be nice if there was local restaurants and parks/walks nearby.

Can anyone give me any thoughts on these areas, are they safe? Child friendly?

Id try and stay near the Trafford centre, its either a premier inn or holiday inn thats right near by (that I can remember!), cant comment on Legoland but theres always Dinosaur crazy golf!..... and lots of places to eat of course. You can get the tram into Manchester.

Thanks he loves golf and dinosaur!

Lego land isn't a day out, it's a couple of hours at most, the sea life next door is an hour if you get a drink.

Really should we book both then?

I wouldn't book either if you've not already done it.

There is a funfair outside the food court, cinema, crazy golf and lazer quest all inside the Trafford centre. You would need a few of them to fill a day!

Agree with others I wouldn’t stay in any of those areas and I’m not sure where Saddleworth comes in within relation to a trip to legoland

agree if not football or event at the Lowry then Salford Quays would be a good choice. You'll be able to see by any surge pricing if there’s an event in the area

you can then get the tram anywhere to Trafford centre/city centre/sale water park or any other places you fancy

@manchesterbreak a fairly random selection of towns in Manchester you’ve chosen there OP speaking as a born and bred Mancunian 😉

The south of the city (Chorlton/Didsbury) have received much heavier investment than the north (Oldham) so you’ll find they are much more scenic. Chorlton is lovely, leafy and lots of bars and nice restaurants and shops. Ditto Didsbury really but Chorlton is a bit ‘trendier’ in my opinion. Both have good public transport connections.

You can make a day out of the Trafford Centre itself but it is a fair distance from Manchester City Centre. Our favourite things to do in the centre of you get the chance;

Museum of Science and Industry (we go here a lot my 9 year old has loved it since being tiny. Something for all ages and currently have an operation ouch ‘Poo Exhibition’ on which is great strangely.)

Manchester Art Gallery

Manchester Museum has recently had a massive facelift and has some real mummies plus loads more to see.

Escape to Freight Island is great, canteen kind of food ordering in a renovated warehouse, really fun.

General Ancoats area for food and drinks, same with the Northern Quarter but although lots of food food and drinks to be found in NQ has lost some of its charm in my opinion!

Avoid Piccadilly Gardens entirely

Football Museum

If you get time it’s also worth a tram ride to Salford Quays, lots of places to eat, a makers market is there once a week (though the day escapes me.) Lovely to get a coffee and walk down the river of the weathers nice, also the Imperial War Museum is there and the Lowry, lots of shows on and the Lowry museum itself inside well worth a look.

Have fun and don’t bring your brolly! Oh and if you decide to use contactless for the tram DONT FORGET TO TAP OUT. I have been burnt so many times by TFGM for forgetting to tap out 😏

Chorlton's nice and has a Rudy's pizza restaurant, which swings it for me.
