Has anybody got any of these? What do I need to look out for?

Just make sure they're air tight, I got mine from Amazon, mine are 900ml iirc. I prefer the metal lids to the wooden type.

I'm not sure why the prepped salads on Instagram are always in tall jars. You can just as easily take one in a normal rectangular or square or round tupperware. Assuming you're using cutlery to eat you can use that to toss the salad in the dressing as well if you need to.

I use lock-lock ones, I buy them in Sainsburys for convenience

Tupperware big enough so you can eat out of it as well. These mason jar type things on social media look good but you’re causing yourself double washing up and I don’t see the appeal.

I think it's so you can see the pretty layers. It's style over practicality, although I think the height is supposed to make it easier to keep the layers separate.

If you put the ingredients in a certain order, with the dressing at the bottom, then protein, then chopped veg with leaves at the top. they keep longer without going soggy.

But to eat it with the dressing, you need to tip out onto a plate and mix, rather than eating out of the jar.

They get shuffled around in my bag anyway so not sure it makes a load of difference. I'm only mixing it (without dressing) the night before or morning of.

How far in advance can you really prep salad? I mean, after one day it starts wilting and going off, doesn't it?

Carpediem15 · 15/08/2023 13:28

Sistema branded containers are notorious for leaking, I have sent them back in the past.
Tall jars are used to that the dressing can be put in the bottom and doesn't make all of the contents soggy.
B and M have some tall ones which are leakproof. I put water in them and give them a good shake to see how good they are before using them for anything.

Someone I follow on YT makes them for 4 days and they look alright on day 4 as long as the greens are kept dry and airtight.

Oh I see, sorry.

I just use regular Tupperware with a separate little mini jar with the dressing sealed but put inside the box if I’m taking one to work (rare). I don’t really see the point of them to be honest, you then have to tip them on to something else to eat - I just eat mine out of the Tupperware box!

exproblemsforever · 15/08/2023 14:28

I use mason jars with metal lids. Best tip is to fill the jar as much as possible as the less air in the jar, the longer the salad will stay crisp and fresh.

exproblemsforever · 15/08/2023 14:29

And chop the salad small so you can fit more in :)

Thanks so much everyone
