Just realised 18 months later B&Q gave us the wrong tiles.

I bought wood effect floor tiles for my bathroom 18 months ago when I planned on remodelling.

Things went a bit Pete Tong and we ended up moving.

I kept everything as I still wanted bathroom in new place the same as I planned.

Just got the tiles out and instead of the brown ones we bought they have us grey!

I have the email reciept that says we ordered brown but I'm guessing its way too late to do anything?

They still sell both products.

It like £120 worth of tiles :(

All you can do is ask them, you obviously have no rights to an exchange anymore, I’d be surprised if they did it, but the worst they can say is no.

WheresTheRemoteControl · 14/08/2023 20:24

Yeah definitely too late.

Not a lot really

turkeytwizzlerss · 14/08/2023 20:25

Have you a B&Q card?

Just message them. You never know.

turkeytwizzlerss · 14/08/2023 20:26

To be honest you don't really need a receipt for B & Q.... as long as they are still selling etc and packaging doesn't look too bad.

Agree with this. Bought something I no longer wanted 6 months later. It was unopened and unused. Went back without a receipt and they gave me a credit voucher.

turkeytwizzlerss · 14/08/2023 20:40

@GoingGoingUp sometimes they are awkward about it.... but if you say "bought the wrong ones, can I exchange for these" should be ok.

Isn't that subjective?

To me it is a lot.

Ah I'll try and just take them and see if they'll exchange without the back story. Thanks.

If they still sell them, take them back to exchange. What I would check though is if the product number is the same. I wanted to take a frame back to dunelm, still in wrapping etc but this version was put in the sale, and then a "new" version came out, although it was the exact same thing!!!!

Itsnotrightbutitsok · 14/08/2023 21:01

Yes way too late.

You can ask if they’ll exchange them for a different colour but it’s a long shot.

milkyway1 · 14/08/2023 21:05

I'd definitely ask for an exchange, and I'd expect one too.
It's not unreasonable to have not checked the contents, life happens and they made the mistake in the first place and sent you the wrong ones - good customer service would be rectifying their mistake.
I hate that you get treated like a criminal when you just want a bit of customer service!

Goady as fuck

ShowOfHands · 14/08/2023 21:30

I've taken something back to B&Q months later and they were happy to swap it. Give it a go!

FiddleLeaf · 14/08/2023 21:32

Similar thing happened with me and I just took them in and asked to exchange without receipt. No problem at all :) Good luck!

turkeytwizzlerss · 14/08/2023 21:38

@IkeaHelp not it's not a lot for tiles. B&Q tiles are over priced and also really bad quality.

You've had them for 18 months - and they cost £180.... so £10 a month.

No I don't think £180 is a lot for tiles.

FeigningConcern · 14/08/2023 21:49

I would definitely take them back and point out what you ordered was not what they gave you. I don't think it matters it's been 18 months. They still didn't give you what you purchased.

MontyDonsBlueScarf · 14/08/2023 22:05

When we redid our kitchen 15 years ago someone told us that B&Q. were well known for having a good attitude to returns and exchanges. I did return some tiles after 18 months or so without any problems at all (apart from embarrassment on my part). There was never any discussion of whose fault it was. I can't say whether the policy has changed since but it's worth asking nicely.

EnthENd · 14/08/2023 22:06

By the letter of the law, you're entitled to either the tiles you ordered or a refund, since what you got wasn't as described. It's the same as a faulty product and the timescale for a complaint like that is six years. (After six months it's your job to prove it was faulty when you bought it, but that's no problem for OP provided they have the receipt or order confirmation).

But if the tiles were £120 when you bought them and they're say £300 now, B&Q can just offer to take them back and refund you £120 and you still have to buy the replacement ones at their current price.

StillWantingADog · 14/08/2023 22:09

I wouldn’t expect a refund but I’d hope for an exchange. If they still stock the old ones there shouldn’t be an issue.

Tiles aren't faulty though.... they are just incorrectly packaged. Customer has had 18 months to inspect - and didn't.

EnthEnd is quite right about what the law says.

@turkeytwizzlerss You are of course entitled to feel that the law should be different, but it says what it says.

OP you have six years to claim for a breach of contract and this was a very clear breach of contract. Tell B&Q they must swap the tiles, I’m sure they’ll be happy to.
