COVID cringe memories (light hearted)

Looking back at the pandemic, especially at its height in 2020, what made your toes curl?

  1. "Imagine". Enough said.
  2. The Marsh family.
  3. On the local news, footage was shown of the Thursday clap (may or June). There was a parade of bhangra drummers and smarmy bratty kids doing the irritating floss dance. Was that point the 'applause' was seen as having had it's day.

I know some people may mention the dancing nurses, I only saw tiny clips on the news. Even that made me cringe.

The Marsh family were and are great.

Nipping to the shop to buy a bottle of wine but piling up my basket with fruit I was never going to eat, just so no one judged me for buying something 'not essential'.

The toy shelves covered up with plastic in B&M.

The queues outside shops and the power-crazed door monitors who wouldn't let you in the shop unless they'd personally witnessed you using the hand sanitiser first.

My friend who used to time her daily walk so that she didn't go over the amount of time the government said she was allowed to be out.

People stepping into the road without looking and nearly being hit by swerving cars, just so they could avoid walking past you on a path.

I have many more but that's it for now. Grin

Worked for a council during covid and had to monitor/ respond to some of this mad shit. Jfc it was ridiculous. I remember seeing daily reports about people taking outdoor exercise on council sites and pondering how we could discourage them. Should we fence off benches to stop groups of walkers stopping off for a chat? Closing playgrounds. Daily debates about how far from home you can travel for your daily exercise and getting grief from residents saying it wasn’t clear. Ya think? The inconsistency in the rules when we got into tiers. And having complaints from florists who were not allowed to open when garden centres were. Inability to get through a day without using the word unprecedented.
I’m proud to say I never clapped though, always thought it was facile. Mad times.

The çhecking on the train that your journey was essential put me in mind of those old war films when the German searched trains.

justasking111 · 15/08/2023 00:16

The bizarreness at Cheshire oaks with hand sanitisers outside every shop and a staff member insisting that you yet again put the stuff on your hands. Yanking my mask up and down going from shop to shop

dutysuite · 15/08/2023 00:16

During lockdown I was misdiagnosed with frozen shoulder and was given physio which was conducted over the phone, it was absolutely useless and difficult to do, I remember being told to lift my arm and the physio asking me if it hurt, I replied yes and he said when does it hurt so I said when I lift my arm like you asked, he then got annoyed and said well I can’t see you and I said I know! Anyway, I was finally told months later upon an examination it was in fact my ribs and not a frozen shoulder!

truthhurts23 · 15/08/2023 00:21

anxiety driven, banana bread making
people clapping like seals
celebrities, attention seeking online
toilet tissue hoarders
shelf clearers

dutysuite · 15/08/2023 00:25

People hating on others for wearing their mask just on their chin.

otherhalves · 15/08/2023 00:29

Wasn't there some sort of guidance at one point about who you could have sex with? Shock

MyrtleSmurf · 14/08/2023 17:49

The people on here who "knew it was coming" and were therefore totally prepared unlike the rest of us plebeian folk.
"Well I actually take an interest in world affairs and am a bit of an epidemiologist so I was wearing a hazmat suit and stocking up in December 2019..." 🙄

I sussed it in January when management stressed that we should take our laptops some every evening. In addition, managers were not allowed to travel to do the year end reviews in January.
They certainly were aware it was coming.

QueenBitch666 · 15/08/2023 00:50

Nurses dancing on Tik Tok 😡

RichardsGear · 15/08/2023 00:50

The dramatic reporting in the early days about the tragic death of, for example, a 94 year old grandmother from covid...all sonorous tones and maudlin vocabulary.
While I get that it was very sad families couldn't be with their loved ones when they were dying, I would inevitably end up shouting at the TV, 'FFS, they were NINETY ODD! How the fuck is this news that a very, very old person has died?!'

QueenBitch666 · 15/08/2023 00:51

Sam Smith sat on his door step crying. Fking melt 🤡

QueenBitch666 · 15/08/2023 00:54

Captain Tom ffs. Where did that money go? 🤔

QueenBitch666 · 15/08/2023 00:57

Stay safe mantra 🤮

Ampharos · 15/08/2023 00:57

I don’t think I’ll ever be able to forgot the poster on here who genuinely suggested someone use a knob of butter, in lieu of milk, in their tea. Rather than going to the shop and buying a pint of milk.

QueenBitch666 · 15/08/2023 00:59

Sarah Everard 😭
RIP 💔

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 15/08/2023 01:00

I think they do that in Tibet as standard, although it is yak butter

QueenBitch666 · 15/08/2023 01:00

skyfalldown · 14/08/2023 16:59

Captain bloody Tom

This with knobs on

QueenBitch666 · 15/08/2023 01:01

itsmylife7 · 14/08/2023 17:08

One of the saddest things is the Queen sitting alone at her husbands funeral.

While Boris and the other fuckers partied.

I'm not a royalist, but that was heartbreaking

Omg how would butter even compare

Hawkins009 · 15/08/2023 01:04

I guess mine was forgetting about the clapping time and doing James Bond through the town to avoid the majority of clappers, (was getting supplies at the time)

Nannyplumislotsofffun · 15/08/2023 01:18
  1. The person who came out of their house, stood on the end of their drive and took a photo of me going for a run and posted it on our local town facebook group.
  2. When only 1 parent could be with our critically ill 3 year old in hospital. Bad enough but we also weren’t allowed to make the switch in the hospital so we had to leave her alone to do the switch outside. Absolutely grim.
QueenBitch666 · 15/08/2023 01:23

Gwyneth Paltrow tormenting about eating bread ( the shame )
And all the other pathetic sleb's desperately trying to stay relevant 🙄

QueenBitch666 · 15/08/2023 01:24

People having a fag with their mask on their chin ( health tho' 🙄 )
