COVID cringe memories (light hearted)

Looking back at the pandemic, especially at its height in 2020, what made your toes curl?

  1. "Imagine". Enough said.
  2. The Marsh family.
  3. On the local news, footage was shown of the Thursday clap (may or June). There was a parade of bhangra drummers and smarmy bratty kids doing the irritating floss dance. Was that point the 'applause' was seen as having had it's day.

I know some people may mention the dancing nurses, I only saw tiny clips on the news. Even that made me cringe.

Sunflower lanyards

Yes! They had super powers which meant the wearer couldn’t spread covid!

Holly and Phil wimpering because they couldn't sit next to each other

Being allowed to leave house once a day. How people agreed to this is still beyond my understanding. I guess they were trying to “do their bit” (hate it when people say this) even though it didn’t make any sense.

We could leave our houses any time we wanted.

I simply don't understand (and honestly feel very sorry for) those who thought that they could only leave their house for an hour a day.

I spent lockdown out and about with my dog, I never stayed at home.

One teacher who wore a mask and face shield having a total melt down one day because a snotty nosed four year old had touched her. She was on the sick after that.

LaMaG · 14/08/2023 23:10

@PutinSmellsPassItOn I had actually forgotten that story, I think I mentally blocked it as my DS was the same age. Can you even imagine the guilt the parents still endure. Poor poor boy

That hideous video of Phil and Holly hugging through a plastic screen and almost sobbing actually makes me nauseous

Closed playgrounds & children wearing masks.

Saying 'stay safe' as and part of a good bye or sign off...

Floopyfloop · 14/08/2023 23:13

We did a Pcr at a drive in and we leaned back to do my 8 year old daughters and she had a massive nosebleed! We asked if they could pass us some tissues through the window and that was a no. And they wouldn’t let me get out to sit in the back with her so I had to climb between the seats to get back there. Absolute idiocy.

justasking111 · 14/08/2023 23:13

My dog could have a haircut but I couldn't. 🙄

Newbeginnings90 · 14/08/2023 23:14

What a completely bizarre experience the whole thing was...

TheCrystalPalace · 14/08/2023 23:14

Why are people on here taking a pop at that nurse who was upset (after a long shift caring for Covid patients, probably without effective PPE) at the supermarket shelves being empty?
And to the poster who said teachers were queue-jumping at shops - no, they were never considered high priority, for queues, masks or jabs.
I thought this thread was intended to be light-hearted. In fact, it's rather unpleasant on the whole.

sammyjoanne · 14/08/2023 23:16

I remember a concert that was streaming One World: together at home. The streaming was poor, kept getting chucked off, and some of the people singing on there was not that great.

seennothinglikeit · 14/08/2023 23:16

Oh yes the cuddle screens, my teeth are itching at the thought

JenniferBooth · 14/08/2023 23:16

User some people couldnt wear masks.

I think public videos of people crying about a situation is just odd, regardless of their job.

ShinyApple the second lockdown was November 2020

Not in Wales it wasn't.

Zone2NorthLondon · 14/08/2023 23:19

This thread confirms what i knew and expected. After immediate panic there was a collective amnesia and resentment about the NHS. Sniggers about distraught staff in their car. Dripping Resentment you think staff took the Piss by having the temerity to use the allocated time set aside for nhs staff.

Nugg · 14/08/2023 23:20

Bloody banana bread. Didn't make it then. Still haven't made it now.

Shielding. It sucked big time for someone who lives alone with nobody locally to even come visit from a distance. Zoom didn't cut it.

moderationincludingmoderation · 14/08/2023 23:21

Subjecting children to all the testing which clearly distressed a lot of them.
Who knows what the impact that testing, of mask wearing, constant hand sanitizing will have on their mental health and attitudes towards germs etc in the future.

JenniferBooth · 14/08/2023 23:21

Zone i didnt have a problem with any of that.

My problem was with the NHS activists on Twitter who were having a go at the public for wanting to do normal things and calling us Covidiots

Zone2NorthLondon · 14/08/2023 23:23

seennothinglikeit · 14/08/2023 23:18

I think public videos of people crying about a situation is just odd, regardless of their job.

odd Is not being able to contextualise the distraught reaction. Working all damn day to enter a store that’s literally empty of stock . That’s enough to tip someone over the edge. Odd is not having the recall or sensitivity to understand why the reaction was so fraught. Odd is wilfully dismissing someone else raw pain as a mere social faux pas of manners

Floopyfloop · 14/08/2023 23:23

The utterly shocking amount of overwhelming signage stupid peeling stickers on the floor that became a hazard and the amount of masks strewn in car parks of supermarkets.

TheCrystalPalace · 14/08/2023 23:24

@JenniferBooth What do you mean by NHS "activists?"
Do you mean medics who'd been at the sharp end of ICU wards and who were on their knees trying to keep people alive, yet watching many people die?

JenniferBooth · 14/08/2023 23:24

Zone Remember ppl were told lockdown would protect the NHS (some of us knew it was bollocks) but some will have taken that literally (just like they took it literally that masks worked) so of course resentment would come to the fore when they found that wasnt the case

Floopyfloop · 14/08/2023 23:25

Desperately trying to purchase a single bag of flour for months!
