Legoland, one day or two?

Were looking at lego land end of next week.

Question, 1 day or 2 with an overnight stay?

Kids are 3.5 and 9 for reference. Its not cost as such but more do i need to spend 600 if it can be done in a day.

Just loads of little things that all add up, parking for hotel and legoland and food etc just seems a lot, although i know thats the cost of going peak time in summer holiday!

Anyone done either, what would you recommend?

One long day. It's not all that big.

swanling · 13/08/2023 17:42

Are you looking at the Lego hotel or just a normal one?

Asking because that would be part of the "experience" so would make a different decision.

TheGriffle · 13/08/2023 17:44

In summer holidays with queue times I would recommend 2 days if you can afford it. We did one day in the summer holidays 2 years ago and didn’t get on half the rides. This year we went one day out of term time and did everything we wanted.

Not stay on site, about 3.5 miles away

Would you consider looking at your inset days are and going out of school holidays? You'd only need one day. Save your money and would be a far more pleasant experience than peak summer.

Redhairblackheart · 13/08/2023 17:52

Weve landed on lego land because im off this week from work and DH has got Thursday-friday off and we were too slow to book a camping pitch.

If we couldnt go camping, we said we would do a few 'big' day trips instead but 1 night is working out the same as if we went away for the whole weekend!

Maybe i would be best to hold out until they do the 2nd day free promo again and go term time?!

In that case I'd wait and go at a cheaper, quieter time.

thaisweetchill · 13/08/2023 18:24

If your kids will last a long day, just drag it out as it can be done. Just avoid the duplo area as it is very babyish (we went as I thought my DS3 would prefer it, he didn't. Save time by taking a packed lunch and eat in queues.

Get there for about 9 and get in the queue, they'll let you in 15 mins before opening but they will stop you half way in to the park then open the gates at 10.

Download the app to keep an eye on the queue times, then you can head to the rides with low queue times throughout the day.

If it's not about the money, I'd do two days, it makes things far more relaxed. You can spend time in mini-land, the pirate park, go to the 4D cinema, watch the pirate show etc without worrying that you're missing out on ride time.

If you're leaning to this then definitely go when it is quieter. We're big theme park fans but we always go out of school hols as makes the day so much more enjoyable. And as great a time you will have at legoland my own view is it is not worth £600 (although I'm sure plenty would disagree with me!) Have fun whatever you decide to do 😊

Thelondonone · 13/08/2023 18:38

Id be tempted to go for one day and buy fast track passes, otherwise it’s a lot of queuing.

APurpleSquirrel · 13/08/2023 18:44

We did 2 days in Legoland (staying on the resort) last year, in the summer but term-time - we didn't manage to get on every ride & we've been twice before.
A lot depends on which rides you really want to do as the big ones have big queues (1hr+ sometimes). The advantage of staying on site is you get a free fast pass for the first hour of each of your days. But it's very expensive, but does add to the experience.
The food choices are very poor & expensive.
I disagree about Duplo Land - my DS (4) loved it there but he hates the rides, so it was a great place for him to play whilst his sister did the rides.
The splash zone is great, but you need good weather for that. & towels.

TippingTree · 13/08/2023 18:47

I’d probably just do one day but spend the extra money on a fast pass/queue jump thing. We went with an 8 & 5 year old earlier in the year. To be honest we didn’t love it (although the kids had fun). I’d second skipping the duplo section, my 8 year old rolled her eyes and the younger one wasn’t fussed either.

Octaviathethird · 13/08/2023 22:01

We went in June with our 4 year old during term time. We did 2 days, staying in the closest Premier inn, we managed to go on everything in those 2 days, 28 rides. I'm so glad we decided to go for 2 days as our DD would have been upset if we had missed out on half the rides!

Wenfy · 13/08/2023 22:04

I have an 11 yo and a 3.5 yo. All things equal I’d pick two days as it’s more relaxed

anotherdaytoday76 · 14/08/2023 22:45

One day but pay out for the reserve and ride app (an extra £30 each for those who have a ticket) - it lets you queue not in the queue so you are queuing as you walk between rides. You can also put yourself in the next queue as soon as you've been scanned to get on one (so just before you sit down on the current ride.)

Still cheaper than a hotel and dinner. Less queuing!

anotherdaytoday76 · 14/08/2023 22:46

Should have said, I've been to legoland a LOT!

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 14/08/2023 22:51

I think the reserve and ride is probably better than staying over night if the only consideration is to fit in as much as you can. Taking away physical queuing time and having the app queue for your whilst you’re on another ride, walking across, eating your lunch or at the playground makes a huge difference.

However if you want the experience of staying overnight - which is fun - then obviously two days is good. A day at Legoland is very tiring imo do it’s pretty good just to be able to crash in your hotel.

In April this year I decided to go for it and booked an overnight stay and reserve and ride. So we got it all out of our systems!

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 14/08/2023 22:52

Oh - food wise - quite a good lunch wheeze I found on the second day was to go to the Legoland hotel (in the bar bit) for lunch. About the same price as the overwhelmingly busy pizza place but you got to sit down after ordering at the bar and it was then all served, kids could go and play on the little climbing bit, and it was just a more relaxed atmosphere.

Drywhitefruitycidergin · 14/08/2023 22:55

One day with fasttrack or 2 day with an overnight stay.
I would personally favour the overnight stay if it's a hotel with a pool coz my kids love hotels & otherwise it's a very long day.
You can knock 4 big rides off - 2 at the beginning of each day, 2 at the end of each day and not be rushed constantly to do everything

Cheetah7 · 14/08/2023 22:56

I wouldn’t bother at all !! especially in the summer holidays. we went for 2 days it was far too busy, we barely got to go on anything, kids got tired from standing around. Lots moaning. Take plenty of snacks / drinks because there are very Limited food / drink options ( also very expensive) and massive queues for food. All in all it was an exhausting and expensive 2 days. We left quite disappointed

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 14/08/2023 23:02

We went when the dc were 3 and 6. Two shorter days worked well, with a night in a hotel in Windsor in between.

There's a Mumsnet Legoland Survival Guide somewhere.
