Selling lego?!

OnionBhajis · 13/08/2023 15:08

We have a ton of Harry Potter lego and lego friends but likely too much fuss to sort the kits out.

How have people sold mixed sets?

There's a few webuyanybricks type sites (best one seems to be toy exchange at £6 a kg)

Has anybody used these sites or found a good way to sell lego? It is not worth thinking how much we spent on the kits originally 😱. But now it's time to go!

I doubt you'll get the best price.

If you go to a car boot they'll probably jump on you early! We were when selling my son's. Luckily the guy was kind and asked was I selling or my son, when I said he was, he spoke to him and showed him what to do to maximise his price and told him to take them out and have fun sorting into their original boxes.

Ohmylovejune · 13/08/2023 15:12

Looking at his stall he sold the characters individually

EarlofShrewsbury · 13/08/2023 15:14

Retired lego can be worth double the price or was new. Harry potter sets are highly collectable.

It might be a slow process but it would totally be worth separating them out and selling them on a Facebook page that is specifically for selling/buying lego... you get the collectors on there.

I've found you only get anything if it is in the set and even then people don't want to pay much for them.

We had huge collection of police lego and spent ages making up the sets and only a few of the smaller ones sold. The large police station about £60 new nobody wanted to even pay £25 for it

EarlofShrewsbury · 13/08/2023 15:17

The Facebook page I use is lego buy/sell/swap u.k.

They could tell you how much is worth both individually and a a mixed job lot.

dikwad · 13/08/2023 15:18

Lego City won't sell.

Harry's Potter Lego will sell but mostly as the full set.

The older, large sets, modular and sets such as Stranger Things, Titanic, Big Bang Theory also sell well.

I am part of a few groups on Facebook and there are 'experts' in there who will let you know if a bundle/set is worth selling.

We only sell the sets that were expensive to buy and are appealing to collectors. Lego City/smaller Potter sets we just broke down and sold per KG.

SabrinaThwaite · 13/08/2023 15:19

I’ve sold Star Wars Lego kits - worth putting together and replacing missing bits as they generally sold for twice the original cost.

Needmorelego · 13/08/2023 15:25

@dikwad I’d buy Lego City sets - I love them.

OnionBhajis · 13/08/2023 15:28

I really don't think we can put the sets together. There is SO much lego we'd be hunting for ages. And we don't have all the instructions.

I am thinking maybe webuyanybrick /toyexchange... but it seems criminal to mix the Harry Potter stuff and lego friends! I'd happily sell to someone wanting to do the leg work.

I think the Harry Potter ones do sell for complete sets but I think it will be an overwhelming task for us to make them. They're part complete currently...

You can download all instructions from the lego website.

DustyGlow · 13/08/2023 15:40

What sets do you have and how much would you want to sell them for? I was just looking for some so could spend the time sorting on a night and give the kids them for Christmas. I'd quite enjoy that too Blush

DustyGlow · 13/08/2023 15:41

It was the HP I'd be interested in but could take the lot if you don't want to separate the Lego friends.

CaptainHammer · 13/08/2023 15:47

Our local toy shop buys them if you have one near you

xyz111 · 13/08/2023 15:58

I've often looked at Lego sets on Facebook as my DS loves them, but I've throughly not worth the risk of trying to build it and there's bits missing. Although you can order missing bits from the Lego website.

OnionBhajis · 13/08/2023 16:01

Hi dusty I'll pm you.

I'm getting to the stage where we just want it out so might suit people who buy mixed lego and resell with sets. But can only find the £6 a kg people (to be fair that's probably about 75 quid at least) . The kids had hoped to resell whole but I can't face it!

Reepicheepy · 13/08/2023 16:17

I’ve also been looking into this as have lots of built and complete sets. Most of the professional buyers don’t seem to want to buy sets. I’m slightly losing the will to live over it as my son has so much!

BibbleandSqwauk · 13/08/2023 16:20

There's a market stall in my town where the guy will buy incomplete sets from you. Not for a huge amount but he will then complete them and sell them on. Saves the v v time-consuming task of tracking down the missing bits. I'm in the process of photographing and dismantling them now. We've got the boxes and instructions.

KeepScrapingBy · 13/08/2023 16:26

Sorting out our Lego was my lockdown project. It took months but I sold all the sets on EBay. Fortunately we had kept some of the instructions which tell you which pieces you need. I bought the missing pieces online so I could sell them as complete.
If you don’t have the instructions you can find them on the Lego website.
It may seem overwhelming at first but just build one set at a time and sell as you go.

OnionBhajis · 13/08/2023 16:33

Well done scrapping! Did it make a lot?

We have a tiny house. If we had a spare playroom I'd consider it but I think we will sell to a £ per kg site. I've put a local post out too but I've got charities wanting it and tbh a few £ will be useful.

We think it's about 15kg (just sorting) so would make 75+ just through that.

OP posts:
panko · 13/08/2023 16:38

Just sell it as a bulk lot and be done with it. Time is just as valuable as money sometimes so unless you're really desperate for money I'd just get on and sell it for £75

SabrinaThwaite · 13/08/2023 18:08

You can often order spare pieces from Brickbay too.

OnionBhajis · 13/08/2023 18:12

So it's 20kg of mixed lego so if the webuybricks people buy at £6 we can get £120 which all counts.

I know individually the sets could get more but I can't do the sorting. I'll put it on gumtree for a bit as would love a local person to buy and sort it/make some money rather than big org!

i would check the mini figures on eBay to see how much they’re worth individually. You might be surprised.
