Anyone else get issues eating gluten?

If I eat too much gluten I get a very upset tummy and pains that can go on several days with me needing to go the toilet 3-4 times a day. That usually leads to haemorrhoids that take weeks to get rid of (and are actually more troublesome than the diarrhoea.)

If I stay off the gluten for 3 weeks everything is fine. Then I start eating a bit again and am fine and over time it ramps up until I'm back where I started.

This only started happening over the last 3-4 years. I'm mid forties.

Has anyone else experienced anything similar?

I don't experience it, but if you have time, you could try Einkorn flour for bread.
It's an ancient wheat that has some gluten but not as much as modern wheat.
Some people who can't tolerate gluten are fine with it.

I'd recommend you get tested for coeliac disease. It's an easy blood test but you do need to be eating gluten before the test rather than excluding it. Not everyone has coeliac disease from birth - many, including my DD develop it later. Good luck
PS gluten is in wheat, spelt, barley and rye

Yes. Take wheat gluten out of your diet, you'll find a great improvement. Some people can tolerate Spelt instead of wheat. I've just started taking Silico gel over the last week which has also helped. Google it. That's silicO not silicA.

Thanks for the replies all.

@Localher0 I did get tested for coeliac disease but as you mention, I'd cut out all gluten and only started eating it again about 2 weeks before the test so was advised it didn't prove much. My GP said I'd need to eat gluten every day for 6 weeks! The problem is, this would just make me so so poorly.

I've been gluten free for about 20 years now because if I eat it I end up with a lot of horrible digestive problems, mouth ulcers and migraines.
I've not been tested for CD because I couldn't stand the symptoms from eating gluten for the length of time they say.
For me, it's far better to simply avoid eating it.

Yep. I find if I stick to wholemeal and no more than one portion a day I can cope but if I succumb to white bread (sour dough is a bit better) pizza and other deliciousness I'm in pain that night
