Can't stop crying about this fecking cat

My local animal rescue are fairly active on FB. A few days ago they posted about a dead stray, with pictures and a beautifully written message. It was to raise awareness of the ludicrous number of strays in our area, and to raise funds. I can't get this little cat out of my head. I've got too many of my own, we couldn't take in any more, but I can't help but think that we could have helped him. I've genuinely been sobbing on and off for days.

Can somebody please tell me something to get this little kitty out of my head? And yes, I am aware that I sound like a lunatic.

I’m sorry I can’t say anything to change your mind, other than to say this cat is not your responsibility, your own cats are so give them extra hugs.

and I would gently say to unfollow the charity page - if it is this triggering it does you no good at all to read that.

When I have things like this that I know I have to stop myself obsessing over, I tell myself that I will think about it for 5 mins ( or however long), and then I will move onto thinking about something else. If I start to think of it again, I remind myself that I allowed myself to think of it, and now I am hinouring my commitment to myself.

This time spent thinking about it allows me to accept it’s important to me ( so I am not just squashing it by ignoring it) whilst also allowing me to move on from it.

You may also allow yourself to think about it the next day or afternoon or whatever.

It take training but I’ve found it helps to not get ‘stuck’ on something.

Thank you. My cats have had so many cuddles this morning

That's really great advice, thank you. I do have a tendency to get stuck on things like this. I kinda get stuck in a loop.

And yes, @AutumnIsMyFriend I should probably stop following the rescue. It's really upsetting me
