neighbour uses disabled bay outside my house

There was recently a thread about disabled parking, I actually have my own problem with it too so thought id start my own thread. Why can disabled parking spaces outside a disabled persons home not be designated to them only? Outside of my house there is a residential carpark type thing. There's a couple of people who use the disabled space outside of my house. I think theres a a space for each house. They live over the road and have their "own" space on their side. They each have their own car so use "my" space as well. I will be a problem because i cant use public transport and will be getting a mobility car and shouldnt have to park away from my house. I dont want to be getting into arguments with anyone.

I thought someone on the last thread mentioned that anyone with a blue badge can park in one

Your need the council to make it just for you.

If they don’t and they have a disabled badge then they can park in it.

I park in a space when I visit my mum, if it’s not used then I’m allowed to use it as I also have a blue badge.

I thought my council can make it just for you but I had a quick look and apparently they can’t.

Please note this type of bay is advisory only and may be used by any other driver, including non-Blue Badge holders. This bay is unenforceable and relies on the goodwill of other drivers to leave the bay clear for those who require it

Yes, you want a permit space, rather than a generic disabled space. My neighbours had one for this very reason. It also lessens the risk of blue badge theft.

QuitMoaning · 12/08/2023 19:14

I think it is because it is on the public road and therefore it cannot be allocated to any one person. Everyone’s taxes pay towards the upkeep of the roads including that small part.

I get that it is frustrating but the only think they can enforce is that it is used by a blue blade driver but it can be anyone with a blue badge.

You can ask for it to be convrerted to dedicated permit bay for you
You can ask for additional disabled bays on your street to meet demand
Speak to your council
Speak to your neighbour so you both get dedicatedbays if you both need them
Dont accept the status quo, ask !

As others have said, on street disabled bays can be used by anyone with a blue badge. You need to ask your local authority for a dedicated one for your use only - you will receive a permit.

Talk to the neighbours they may have no idea

Problem is, if they have disabled blue badges they’re perfectly entitled to park there and OP can’t do much about it. Would be better to approach the council for a dedicated permit disabled bay.

If I’ve read it right she doesn’t have a car at the mo, I meant they may not be aware that they need it. Just thinking might be a quicker temp solution.
