It’s about a cm big, smooth and moveable. I’ve just turned 24 and had my second baby. I stopped breastfeeding about 3 months ago. I’m worried sick I’m going to leave my children without a mother. Just looking for some company. I’m shaking with fear, I can’t sleep

Hi @Zinfandelfoot
I'm awake xx

Zinfandelfoot · 12/08/2023 03:05

Hi, thank you for replying. I’m sick with worry and can’t sleep. My baby is in bed laying next to me and I keep thinking about dying and leaving him

Hi OP, sorry you found something but it seems like it might be related to BF? You really won't know until you get it checked out. Get it seen to asap by your GP. It will be ok :)

I would get checked but that won't be cancer. It's exceptionally rare at 24 and cancer isn't moveable or smooth. You will be fine.

Zinfandelfoot · 12/08/2023 03:07

I hope so, I’m going to contact the GP first thing Monday morning. I have really bad health anxiety so I’m pretty terrified.

Could it be a lump from having stopped breastfeeding, i'm just trying to think what it could be xx

dorya · 12/08/2023 03:10

Hey,, try not to escalate, its so hard as there's nothing you can do at the moment. Get a GP appointment for a proper check when you can. Hope you're ok, can you distract yourself with the tv, a book or the headspace app? Xx

Silkierabbit · 12/08/2023 03:11

I had breast cancer, its quite different to that, rock hard, like a walnut to feel, not moveable.

Zinfandelfoot · 12/08/2023 03:13

Thank you all for replying. It’s hard not to worry, I’m up not so gonna try make myself a
hot drink and put on some Netflix. Really was a shock to find

Yes, defiantly for a gps appointment.

If they refer you, don’t panic. Referrals get made for most breast lumps, whether it’s sinister or a cyst, and usually on the two week pathway.

Also, most lumps are innocent, and most breast cancers are curable.

Sending hugs.

Zinfandelfoot · 12/08/2023 03:21

Yes I’ve had a little look online and I'm expecting to get referred. As it definitely wasn’t there before. I’m generally a very anxious person so that’s doesn’t help.
I have a nice night out planned tomorrow away from the kids so I’m just putting my mind on that and will deal with this on Monday. Trying to think positive. Bit worried as my dads sister just had breast cancer so it makes it all a lot more real I guess.

sounds like could be a cyst though can understand why you feel nervous. You are being wise to focus on your night out, take it one day at a time.

I've been referred to breast clinic 3 times - twice in my 20s for same as you and then once later for lactating years after babies.

All of them were nothing of concern. The overwhelming chances are that is not anything to worry about especially given your age and that you've just stopped breastfeeding recently.

The fact it's smooth and moveable is also good. Do not freak if you get referred under 2ww - just be glad it'll be dealt with.

Until Monday just erase it from your mind. Worrying won't alter anything.

TheFeistyFeminist · 12/08/2023 03:38

Finding a lump can be a very scary experience. That said, the numbers are in your favour.

Something like 6 out of 7 lumps referred for investigation turn out to be benign (not cancer). It could be a cyst, a blocked milk duct, a quirk of your anatomy that you can only notice now because breast feeding does change your boobs.

The odds are also good because of your age.

Do get it investigated and the likelihood is your GP will automatically refer you on the two week pathway. This is good news as less wait means less worry. I have been referred twice in my life. GP said "the more boobs they see, the more women they can reassure".

Finally, in the very unlikely event that it is a problem, treatments are excellent now and survival rates seriously impressive.

As hard as it is not to worry, especially on a long dark night, please try not to worry. Put your practical head on and get it checked out. Xxx

Thank you all for the advice. I’m going to try get some rest, it’s really reassuring to me. All I can do is get and checked out on Monday and go from there but there’s no point worrying now. Thank you all

Breast cancer kinda feels craggy like jagged and solid, like a grain of rice or small rock.
It's sounds like a cyst which is spherical, move able and sometimes sore.
I have a lot and I felt just like you.
Get it checked with an ultrasound.
It's very common and hormonal.
Probably because you finished breastfeeding you're trying to clear oestrogen and it accumulates in your liver and then you get breast cysts.
Hot shower, massage with castor oil will help. Try not to worry xxx

No problem. Glad was still up and was able to see the thread. All the best.

I had a lump which was smooth and moveable. Totally panicked but booked into the doctors. Had an ultrasound and breast surgeon referral. She was so lovely. Explained how uncommon breast cancer actually is. Why she wasn’t remotely worried about my lump and showed me why on the scans. She ended up taking it out as it was large and it was almost as easy to do that as biopsy it (it was 4.5cm big). What really helped me though was getting appointments in as quickly as possible, GP, ultrasound, breast surgeon. I was literally in the phone out in the HP waiting room booking both. Although I was mega worried - it reduced the time. And everything was ok

I’ve had fibroids in my 20s and breast cancer at 39. The fibroids were smooth and moveable. Cancer wasn’t moveable. But all were checked under the 2 week protocol.
