Going on a UK city break next week. (York for clarity and weather). Me and husband. He is disabled so can't help me with the case. We have one medium case for the two of us. I am a chronic over-packer. It's an illness 😅

Weather looks warm, dry (ish). We will be pootling about in the day time and in pubs with live music at night. HELP ME WISE ONES

Oh, we are travelling by train, hence the need for a light case..

How many nights?

Travel in jeans, trainers, light too and shower proof jacket.

Pack clean pants/socks/tops.

Personally I would take Birkenstocks as I can walk miles in them. Pair of shorts in case it is suddenly boiling hot.

If you don't wear jeans some comfy sort of casual trousers.

3 nights.

I don't do jeans. Sensory issues! I have some legging-style joggers and some combats....

For 3 nights, try;

  • two pairs of bottoms
  • three tops which mix and match
  • two dresses for the evening
  • one nightwear
  • underwear
  • two pairs of shoes
  • Wear a jacket on the train.

Travel bottles for toiletries.

Good luck and have fun.

Go ultralight, you won't regret it, a wheely case is fine if you are travelling by train etc.. but there are also some benefits of rucksack (hands free, hoike it up by your seat etc., although more crushed clothes unless you roll them well). If you are in a hotel, they normally have shower gel / shampoo (your body will not collapse for not having the "right" shampoo for a day or so) towels etc, so a toothbrush each and a 25ml travel tube of toothpaste should do, deoderant / hairbrush (between you) and minimal or travel make up (no full bottles of moisturisers for example), travel sunscreen, small scent, swimming costume if relevant. Important meds and ibuprofen. Kindles (or a book) One charger and the right wires, headphones. Wear your combats, comfiest trainers and fleece on way out (same for OH) and on way back, to be honest, I would probs wear these each day (change of underwear, t shirt and shower obv). Take a light raincoat (Cagoule) each. Depending on your need to change your outfits at night, or suit them to the occasion, you probably need another 1-2 outfits each tops. There is not much point on saving weight on underwear and socks etc. for 3 nights (I take 3 pairs regardless of length of trip, one wearing, one spare, one "in the hand wash", always dry the next morning, but it is a discipline). I've recently done 5 weeks in South East Asia with a 25l hand baggage of under 5kg. My luxuries are 1) another pair of trainers or shoes 2) headphones - the in ear ones hurt after a bit 3) an aluminium cup and a spork 4) a nighty, I could sleep without one, but prefer not to. The good thing about a UK stay is you can always buy stuff you have forgotten anyway. Good luck, enjoy your stay. x

You don't need a lot for 3 nights. Pub with live music at night won't need a separate outfit to daytime.

Travel in one pair of joggers or combats and pack one pair.

Wear one top and pack 2 or 3 others.

Wear trainers or comfy shoes. No need to pack a spare pair.

Hoodie or cardie depending on your style.

Light, waterproof jacket

Underwear

Nightwear

Decant usual shampoo, shower gel and moisturiser into travel bottles because you might not like the ones provided by the hotel.
Toothbrush and toothpaste
Hairbrush

Phone and charger
Book or kindle
Headphones

Look at travelfashiongirl.com
Lots of packing lists for various types of holidays, a bit like a capsule wardrobe. I find it really helpful for keeping clothes to a minimum.
