Maybe two weeks a month feeling good?

EllaJayne112 · 11/08/2023 15:34

Anybody else experience this?
Basically what the title says: I feel I get one maybe two weeks a month at a push of feeling good.
The week before my period I feel vile, can't look at myself in the mirror, just basically feel repulsed by myself.

Maybe the week after Iv come off I feel powerful, beautiful and like I can take on the world

Anybody else experience this? Or are my just not normal Grin

yes I relate and I suspect I have PMDD.

How old are you? I found my miserableness was getting worse and worse. I've been on HRT for a few months now and it's literally changed my life. And it's obvious to everyone - DH, DC, friends etc.

Theredfoxfliesatmidnight · 11/08/2023 15:42

I don't know, so 50% of the time you feel happy, and the other 50% you feel neutral or not great? It sounds about right to me, no one is ecstatically happy all the time. But if you are getting very severe highs and lows that you feel are hormone related, then yes definitely chase that up.

Bear in mind though that if you medicate the lows away you are likely to lose the beautiful, all powerful feelings too. You can't numb human feelings indiscriminately x

I'm only just into my 30's
And I also have PCOS I don't know if that makes a difference 🤷🏽‍♀️

I haven't long lost my job, I have a young son with ASD, we've had a loss in the family. The last few months have defo been rocky. These feelings have only been happening the past 5-5 months.

I thought this was normal

Lizlibrarian · 11/08/2023 16:15

I know people with depression find hormones cause up and downs and make the downs more pronounced. Depression can be triggered by a stressful life and events. Medication can mellow the lows but as pp said it will dull the highs too. You have to weigh up if it's worth it I suppose.

Beninthesortingoffice · 11/08/2023 16:16

Mid 40s. Normal for me, but wasn't the case in my early 30s. Very cyclical. I also find that my wish for cake is very strongly cyclical as well.

It's normal for me, late 30s, but I also have PCOS and several different mental health conditions. I find my anxiety is at it's absolute peak the week before my period is due.

survivalmodemum · 11/08/2023 16:24

I relate to this. Had a good couple of months there and back to feeling crap the week before and week of my period. Don’t remember having this issue until I had my third child 4.5 years ago!

Marchbug · 11/08/2023 16:29

I now take setraline for this, half the dose for anxiety and depression, it's really improved things for me. Maybe have 1 to 2 bad days rather than, like you say, it taking over for half the month

SallyWD · 11/08/2023 16:41

This started for me in my 40s along with other perimenopausal symptoms.

dysfunctionsurvivor · 11/08/2023 16:43

@SallyWD did HRT patch improve things? Just started age 40 for same reason. Causing huge stomach bloating in week 2!

weebleswobblebuttheydontfalldown · 11/08/2023 17:01

I started to get like this in mid 30's - started getting really bad PMT and PMT mid cycle too plus anxiety from nowhere... ended up on AD's but really should have looked into early peri meno looking back as my mum had hers early too. Keep an eye on symptoms, hormones can cause a lot of this

DuvetCoverNightmare · 11/08/2023 17:14

Yes this was me! Half a week of feeling like absolute shit leading up to ovulation, 10 days of miserable-ness during my period.
I went on the pill (despite not getting on with it in the past) and I feel like a different woman

inthekitchensink · 11/08/2023 17:38

Normal for me too - debilitating fatigue, nausea, migraine and numbness or sadness for half the month, the other half fine. HRT not changed the situation at all

I haven't tried HRT (yet). Hope the side effects calm down soon.
