Does anyone know about dream interpretation?

I had a really vivid dream last night in which I saw a snake. The snake rose up and I could see that it had eaten a bird. The bird was inside the snake and had its wings spread out. I wanted to take a photo of it but couldn't as I didn't have my phone...
I don't dream very often so this felt significant and I'm intrigued about what (if anything) it meant.

If anyone has any ideas I'd be interested to hear. Thank you :)

Just your brain doing weird things as it resets as you sleep - mixing up memories and things you’ve seen in films and things you’ve thought about once 12 years ago or something. No need for anyone to interpret anything, that would just be bollocks.Grin

Well a snake is linked to medicine and the bird spreading its wings probably means you feel trapped and want to leave...so you got pissed off waiting in the virtual queue for a non existent gp appointment.

I agree with @PuppyMonkey. Years ago I bought a book about dreams, thinking it would unlock the secrets of what was going on inside my head. It was a really good read, principally because it told me that dreams are made up of fragments of information our brains have picked up during the day. They don't have any particular significance other than, if you dream about a red car, you probably saw one earlier in the day or week. If you dream about being chased by a monster, it's likely cobbled together from various snippets of things you've watched/read/experienced all jumbled up and reworked as a story or scenario. That book released me from pointlessly wondering if my dreams had profound meaning.

Dreams are symbolic. Your brain trying to process your feelings and events. They don't have specific meanings that apply to everybody.
How did you feel about the snake or the bird. I wonder if you identify more with a bird trapped inside a larger dangerous beast but trying to metaphorically still spread your wings? Was the snake positive or negative?
Not having your camera would make me think that you feel unprepared or unable to prove whats going on to other people.

AceofPentacles · 11/08/2023 07:21

From a woo perspective birds represent freedom - are you having your freedom curtailed by someone or something?

MerryMarigold · 11/08/2023 07:22

I think if you felt strong emotions in the dream, you could be feeling these subconsciously at the moment and the dream is your mind's way if getting it out. How did you feel when you didn't have the camera? Angry, scared, panicky? I often have panic dreams when I'm going through a stressful period (the classic being unable to get to an exam, or turning up naked or something).

snake rose up - power - bird taken by surprise, swallowed whilst still in flight -
bird didn’t sense danger - isnake in the grass is self explanatory - observer
without camera unprepared

think of dreams as brain rooting through our subconscious whilst we sleep,
sorting out, chucking out, much the same way as we go through our photos page to delete those we don’t need, making space for new ones

Describing dreams verbally often aids interpretation.

without being able to prove it ! excellent work Holmes !

Honestly, if you read the recent story in the times about the woman in the US who was attacked simultaneously by a hawk and a snake, that might explain it. In your sleep you just jumbled up the narrative but the protagonists were the same.

I also read about dream interpretation (Jung and then something more balanced, by a less well known author), and have decided there is no universal dream interpretation key.

Dreams are just snippets from past experiences, all jumbled up as PPs have said. I do think your mind is capable of giving the story a certain slant that may be influenced by your emotional state though.

I dreamt I spoke with Dr house last night he even used one of his completely out of order slightly pervy comments at me 😂 my entire dream was about losing and finding something (from what little I remember) which makes sense we are having work done on the house my entire day consists of where is this where is that?

Thanks for your thoughts all! I don't much go for the woo type stuff but I definitely believe dreams point to how we are feeling about things were going through. I actually have a recurring dream when I'm going through difficult things, but the snake/bird was a new one lol. My DD was watching Harry Potter this week so the snake and bird might be my brain processing that lol. However , the idea of feeling/being trapped rings true right now.
Although I agree that there's no universal interpretation it is fun to have a go. I love hearing others dreams and trying to decipher what they might mean. I think I'm in a minority though! 😁

This is actually quite spot on right now ...

One way to find out what the symbols might mean to you is to write about the dream from the perspective of each of the characters in it, but in the first person. So "I am and the snake and I feel...". And so on. That can bring up some interesting thoughts.

HidingFromDD · 11/08/2023 12:28

i think dreams are your subconscious way of visualising stuff that’s going on, so the interpretation tends to be cultural. Do you work? I’d question whether you feel held back and your subconscious is saying that there may be someone behind it (‘snake in the grass’) but you can’t prove it (can’t photo)

PuppyMonkey · 11/08/2023 12:43

Snakes represent medicine? Birds represent freedom? Says who? All random nonsense.Grin

Yep, likely so..but it can be fun to weigh up random nonsense without taking it too much to heart, so I'm happy for anyone to suggest it 😊

I'd say it means you have an idea of some sort - creative, or something to make your life freer. But it's contained and you're struggling to see how you would make it work. The camera is you trying to capture the idea to better look at it and analyse it.

I don't believe dreams are entirely random. Sometimes they are, particularly if you have been drinking, or are physically uncomfortable in some way. But there are some symbolic meanings which are more universal (dreaming of a tidal wave going over you would mean your feelings overwhelming you about something) and some that would be specific to just you e.g. a rabbit meaning a feeling of love and care, as you had a pet rabbit as a child.

BumpyaDaisyevna · 11/08/2023 18:32

You want to spread your wings but feel trapped inside something dangerous.

And you don't have the tools to communicate this.
