We went with a in- house monitored alarm because it was mainly for night falls and the only times they were out they were with someone.
It had a button push on a strap like a watch or a pendant. The watch button worked best
When pushed it called the monitoring station and they could speak and hear via a loud speaker box.
This was in the hall near the bedroom and bathroom and had a small range outside.
If the company got a reply they would check everything was ok as in false alarm
Or stay on the line until inhouse help came,
if needed they had a call list to get someone to the house, (2 lists depending on peoples location day & night)
If needed they would start emergency services if asked or if nobody picked up the phone.

The big advantage was simple to use.

Another family member was mobile and had a mobile phone alarm but did not always take the phone when going out or moving between rooms

We organised ours through our local council, maybe give yours a try.

Thank you for the responses. There is a phone available but they don’t always have it with them and I am concerned it is more complicated than pushing a button. I will look into the watches as that seems more discreet.

Our mum had a pendant one, but never had it on her 🤦🏻‍♀️, especially during high risk times such as going to loo at night or during a shower. I lost count of the number times I drove the 10 miles to check on her because she wasn't answering the phone, mainly because hearing aid batteries had gone!

We gave keys to her ndn so they could help in an emergency, but didnt use for just a welfare check.

My brother set up Alexa devices in most rooms so she could call out but we never used it in earnest. Another friend set up cameras so they could remotely monitor their mum (outside bathrooms/bedrooms), but I know many would not be comfortable with that, we weren't.

It is such a difficult time worrying about them.

My DM has a pendant one through the council. It seems to be fine. She pressed it by accident once and they were right on it.

My friend was v happy with Careline365 for her parents. It's also family run and owned - set up by a guy wanting to help his own parents:

We've always used the ones through the local council too.

The 'careline' type ones are all pretty similar - FIL has one that recognises when he falls; MIL has one she'd have to press if she falls. They can be worn on the wrist which makes it harder for them to be taken off when they are needed.

Local councils can provide all sort of telecare solutions as well as call alarms, such as bed alarms that alarm if she gets up at night then doesn't go back to bed etc. In our area you can contact them directly for an assessment but you will need to find out your local procedures.
