MN talk guidelines

Anyone feel like MN talk guidelines are very inconsistent and often frankly silly?

Ex. Posts get taken down for saying "older generation is selfish" but not for saying "younger generation is the most stupid generation ever".

There are posts promoting things like keto diet or eating 500 calories a day but pointing out that that's dangerous and stupid breaks talk guidelines.

It seems very very skewed to please specific groups rather than create a safe environment for everyone.

Well, this is an anonymous public forum - there’s no question whatsoever of creating a ‘safe space’ for anyone who reads or posts here.

I don’t expect MNHQ to be responsible for my well-being, so I don’t care much about the minutiae of talk guidelines.

Which is totally fair, but then random censorship where the mood strikes seems like a weird approach.

Different mods interpret rules differently. If you are that bothered ask about specific instances on site stuff.

If a post is only moderately against talk guidelines, it almost certainly won't be noticed or deleted unless there is a complaint about it. And of course as the previous poster said there will be scope for differing interpretation by mods.

Why does it matter, so long as the most egregiously hateful stuff is deleted? Why do you expect to have a forum where nothing bad is said? Would you expect the same in your local pub?

Also, re keto diet and 500 cals a day, it isn't MN's job to police the quality of advice that is offered on the forum (Besides, what' wrong with keto?????) People can post right or wrong opinions on any subject they want, so long as they aren't abusing one another.
Do you want a forum where people can only say what is right and good and true?

If it's ok to have and voice an opinion that eating 500 calories is great, it should be ok to voice it's actually very stupid. That's all.
