Any crocheters out there?

I would like to crochet some fingerless mittens and wrist warmers in a yarn that feels nice, is actually warm and reasonably durable. Also, not too thick so that they're comfortable to wear while typing on a keyboard (WFH). I'd be grateful for specific yarn recommendations please, and if it can be bought from lovecrafts even better as I have some items to get from there. Thanks so much!

James C Brett DK With Merino is always well received when I use it for gifts and it's nice to work with

I would second James brett merino I knitted DH a jumper in it and it’s lovely wool. Washes well too

I've used drops Nepal in the past for wrist warmers which is a wool alpaca mix.

Thank you so much. I love the sound of both and I notice the range of colours is lovely! The Nepal one is Aran, which I worry it will be a little too chunky for mittens/wrist warmers though. Both great options though, thank you. Still keen on more recommendations.

I knitted myself some Aran weight fingerless gloves, and they aren't too thick at all! Lovely and squishy, but they don't get in the way of typing.

My go-to is any kind of DK 100% cotton skein. You can get them on ebay kind of cheap, or there's an 85% cotton blend in Poundland that seems to be worsted or aran. I'm using it for a jumper and it's really nice to hold.

Style craft is soft. I’m doing baby stuff atm.

I really like deramores studio dk, which I think you can get on Lovecrafts. Such lovely feel to the yarn and some gorgeous colours but sadly stock seem to run low these days

Alpaca is lightweight and very warm. I'd find a yarn with a high alpaca content. You probably want a DK weight at most so there's not so much bulk.

BeBraveAndBeKind · 10/08/2023 09:59

Drops Nord is lovely. It's 4-ply wool/alpaca. It's super soft and warm. I use it for socks.

I was getting really excited by the price of Drops and then realised it's for a 50g ball!

I would use a sock yarn, it's the perfect weight for gloves/wrist warmers and the standard 75% wool/25% nylon blend is a perfect mix of warmth and strength. And commercial brands are usually machine washable.

Drops is really nice yarn and is cheap compared to other natural fibre yarns. I like Drops Merino extra fine, currently on offer at Woolwarehouse which is a dk weight. I’ve also used drops Alaska and some of the alpaca ones too. I do use acrylic yarn sometimes but prefer the feel of natural fibres like wool, alpaca, merino.

I agree with @Yarnorama use 4 ply sock yarn, merino/nylon mix. Thousands of colour mixes to choose from!
