15 Yearold dd watching Oppenheimer tomorrow. Proof of age question

Will a phone photo of her passport with her photo on it be accepted as proof of age in the cinema?

I would rather not have her carry her actual passport with her if she doesn't have to.

She will be going with a friend who is tall, but dd can still be mistaken for younger.

I’m not sure that will be taken as proof sadly, is there anyone who could go down with her and take the passport home once she shown it?

AvengedQuince · 09/08/2023 07:26

15 is old enough not to lose a passport for a one off surely?

user1471505356 · 09/08/2023 07:28

I doubt you would be asked.

Engineeringlife · 09/08/2023 07:32

My DD15 went yesterday, she took her old passport. She’s only had her current one for a couple of months.

LyndaSnellsSniff · 09/08/2023 07:33

My DS has taken a photocopy of passport before and it's been accepted.

Odeon do a 'proof of age' ID. You have to download an app. I'd assume other cinema chains do it, too.

It guess it depends on the cinema.
My 17 year old is regularly asked for ID at 12 films. And whilst she might look younger than 17, she most definitely does not look under 12.
I think people struggle with girls' ages.

OP - for future use your DD could get a citizen card. And just take the passport this time. Is there any particular reason why DD is more likely to lose it than her phone/keys/school pass/any other thing she routinely takes with her?

xsquared · 09/08/2023 08:03

Thanks for replies.

I think I will let her take her passport on this occasion, but I will jave a look at Yoti or getting her a citizen's card.

As for why I'm particularly worried about her losing her passport, I guess it's just too much risk if it does get lost or stolen.

She doesn't usually carry a bag or anything like that, so she'll be putting it in her back jeans pocket, where as I'd want her to take it in something that has a zip.

Just tell her that if she loses her passport she will have to pay for a replacement!

neleh87 · 09/08/2023 08:25

It's been a long time since I worked at the cinema (10 years) but I always accepted a photocopy or a photo of a passport.

Also, if things are as they were then, I expect they would be asked. 15 is a difficult age to judge.

Curlyshabtree · 09/08/2023 08:26

Yes Vue accept photo if passport on phone.

MerryMarigold · 09/08/2023 08:30

I took my 14yos (they will be 15 in Dec) and no ID requested. In my opinion it was far less dodgy than some very violent films which are 12A. I think it's just Florence Pugh's boobs which makes it a 15 and a suicide you don't really see. I'm not sure the staff will care.

123ZYX · 09/08/2023 08:36

@MerryMarigold there's also the parts where he's imagining the effects of the bomb, immediately after it's detonated, which is quite intense

NashvilleQueen · 09/08/2023 08:40

My daughters have a school app on their phones that has photo and dob. That might be an option if something similar?

EnolaAlone · 09/08/2023 08:49

My DS is 15 and has used the Yoti app at 3 different cinemas (Showcase, Odeon and an independent). I think you upload your passport to it.
