Cath Kidston Sale - Too good to be true?

theothersideofmidnight · 09/08/2023 00:08

I came across an advert for CK on Facebook, and clicked the link to find this.

A search on Google led me to the same, eventually, but not by any stretch as the first hit as one might expect of a brand name. Surely it's too good to be true?

Virgin have blocked the site but not sure if other internet providers have

CindyHater · 11/08/2023 23:37

Total scam site, please be aware. Cathkidstonuk.com is not legit. It's so depressing that these scammers are advertising on Facebook to lead people to their fake store - avoid at all costs.

I fell for it! Bought items on the 9th and when I went to track my order and it was in US dollars I thought it was strange so went to my bank on the 10th - card cancelled and transaction cancelled - got my money back today. It was only £38 but it could have been a lot more. I found out later that the real website closed back in June! This one looked like the real thing but it wasn't 😥

Angieblueeyes · 12/08/2023 08:25

You were lucky to get transaction cancelled nat west won’t go that they are making me stressed out big time . Asking why I’m disputing it etc I said it’s a fraud can’t you see the fake stuff I’m pleased you were refunded

I would have thought Nat West was the best! Don't give up, I was asked lots of questions over the phone and the lady was doing a web search as we spoke and she could see it was a scam. This is what I've got from my bank not even 24 hours after I reported it. "You have been given a refund
We’ve finished our investigation into your dispute with FOURSEASONSCODE for the amount of £38.32.
We can now confirm your account or travel wallet has been refunded. We hope that this resolves your dispute.

I love Cath Kidston stuff but didn't order off this site

Shame the original business went as there were always good offers on the site

Foofoo1 · 13/08/2023 11:03

Hi, registered just to say that this website is a scam operation; my wife was scammed.

  • Don't buy from the website
  • If you did, contact your credit card issuer and request a chargeback
  • Write a report to Action Fraud or contact police directly
  • If you know who "Cloudflare" are, contact them to report that their infrastructure is being abused to commit crime. If you don't know what I'm talking about, ask your nerd friend or partner to do it for the sake of the nation
  • Contact the new owner of the Cath Kidston brand, Next, and beg them to defend their brand somehow - they can put enormous pressure on Cloudflare, who is hosting the website and effectively an instrument in crime

This is as serious as it gets - the fact that the business went bust makes the scam somewhat difficult to spot. Thousands of British consumer are getting robbed as we type.

Foofoo1 · 13/08/2023 11:06

Revolut obviously refuses to pursue a chargeback because the customer care agent believes the site to be 100% legit.
I opened a case with the financial ombudsman.

Ges92 · 16/08/2023 07:12

I usually spot these scams pretty quickly but I placed an order last week from this website. Thought I’d got ahead with my Christmas shopping! Has everyone managed to get their money back?

listsandbudgets · 16/08/2023 07:23

I fell for this with a Fat Face advertand lost £80. Luckily for me the bank refunded but it took 6 weeks.

I noticed pretty quickly ( a couple of minutes) and froze my card and contacted the fraud department at the bank. It transpired that not only had the £80 gone but they'd set it up as a recurring payment meaning they could take more at any time. Bank were brilliant issued new card, got rid of the recurring payment and got me my money back. Apparently they often come back on recurring payment the next day and the day after that...... etc....

However even though the payment was still pending then I spoke to them, it was not possible to stop it they could only raise a dispute after it had gone through. Surely for the benefit of both bank and customer they need to find a way to fix this when the transaction is reported in time and most likely fraud.

listsandbudgets · 16/08/2023 07:27

I also contacted Fatface who were helpful and pursued it themselves to protect their brand

Now there is cathkidsaleuk.com - which also looks dodgy. It has a green pop up that says “Trusted site” (!) but the info sounds all wrong (eg “If your order went thru (SUCCESS), we will send you the confirmation to your order email address within 2 hours.” Er.)

so watch out for this one too?

The trusted store logo is no longer used the company changed the branding to Top Quality Store, so even that is fake

Revolut issued a chargeback eventually.

Report en masse and relentlessly to Action Fraud, Cloudflare (the hosting service harboring these criminals), 1api.net (the domain registrar).

Angieblueeyes · 16/08/2023 10:31

Hiya
so sorry you got scammed / I did too / the mystery deepens as I had an email from “ Mary” that’s the name that comes up on your fake invoice / to say she would cancel order and refund/ I spent £60 and today a refund came for £3.00 !! Not happy with Nat west at all complaint & dispute pending as they to me aren’t treating as fraud / to quote the advisor “ it’s not fraud if you did the transaction “ ???? I’ll keep all updated I have to wait 15 WORKING days too before nat west will bother

Doggymummar · 16/08/2023 10:34

I was taken in by this so saving this for the inevitable cc claim. Shipping info has it leaving Singapore and arriving Heathrow though so I will wait a week or two and see what happens.

No, report immediately and throw the kitchen sink at it, including Action Fraud and the police. The website is impersonating Cath Kidston which is a scam in and of itself, regardless of whether a bag with some fake rags eventually reaches your house.
Act now, en masse, decisively.

Don’t wait! It’s 100% a scam site. Report it now!

Wendy107 · 17/08/2023 10:03

I’ve placed a small order to test the water in this one, and so far all ok with tracking number from Singapore so will wait and see what items if any will arrives as would be great to place a big order for Xmas 🎄

Wendy107 · 17/08/2023 10:04

I’ve placed a small order to see what happens also, you never know, it’s worth a try 😜

thehoundschicken · 17/08/2023 10:15

Fraud and scams are treated differently for cards. Fraud is when someone uses your card details without your knowledge / copies the details / pretends to be you. Scam is when your duped into making a payment yourself

The previous posts have good education on what to look for and always be aware of Facebook adverts and the like if it's too good to be true as well as the bad wording etc we need to have some responsibility to stay safe online also, there is lots of education out there nowadays but unfortunately people can still fall for them.

Using a dodgy site is classed as a retail dispute as so many these sites pop up some actually send the goods (usually fake or not up to standard) and some websites do have a different registered name/association, however it has to be treated as a dispute for that type of purchase. You will still get your money back if it debits the account and usually you can just fill out a form on banks website.

As the sites are dubious /scam sites they could potentially sell or use the details to be used by fraudsters or fraudulent transactions without your knowledge so it is best to cancel and reorder as details may be compromised.

thehoundschicken · 17/08/2023 10:19

And that is why it's retail dispute sometimes fake items do turn up from china etc, if some people are happy with that and risking their details being sold on and used for fraud then what are banks meant to do HmmConfused

Can't believe people have continued to order despite the posts it's not a genuine site. I would suggest Mumsnet take down the original link as people are clicking on it and using it from here

Except now they have your payment and card details?
