Trying to plan a holiday as a single mum, first one 😬

I’m thinking Easter where it may not be as busy.

whats the chances I’d it being warm in March? I’ve googled but I’d love to hear real experiences

My PILs go every February and always have great weather. Mid 20s. We go to Lanzarote in March and the weather is always fab. It does get chilly at night though and you never see many people in the pool.

LadyGAgain · 08/08/2023 22:14

Went to Lanzarote at Easter a few years ago. It was pleasantly warm during the day (not as warm as I like), the pools were freezing so no swimming and the evenings were chilly. Totally put me off ever considering an Easter holiday in Europe again.

rookiemere · 08/08/2023 22:17

We went to Tenerife once first week of April. It was warm enough most of the time but a few cloudy and slightly cooler days, but then friends went last Feb and had great weather.
I'd book southern Tenerife for best chance of good weather - Costa Adeje is a nice resort.

Ish. In 20s most days. Swam in pool but it was heated.

rookiemere · 08/08/2023 22:19

Yes try to get somewhere with a heated pool - it makes a big difference.

LBOCS2 · 08/08/2023 22:21

We often go to Fuerteventura in April and October and it's always warm to hot then. I personally find the pools very chilly in April but the kids cope ok!

NCGrandParent · 08/08/2023 22:23

Weather is reasonable year round. Early to mid 20s in winter and spring. If you're travelling alone with children, it's a long flight though. 5 ish hours I think.

Germolenequeen · 08/08/2023 22:25

Lanzarote is unpredictable -we went there for one Easter holiday - weather was cooler for a couple of days than it was here in Ireland 😬

Last visited between Christmas and New Year and temps were in the 30s 🤷‍♀️

garlictwist · 08/08/2023 22:26

Aren't the canaries the same weather all year round? Usually low to mid twenties. Land of the eternal spring or whatever it is.

irrationallypink · 08/08/2023 22:59

Usually mid twenties

Zippitydoodaa · 09/08/2023 00:27

Was in Tenerife just this March,
Los Cristianos -very warm.
Even in the evening.
Went out for dinner each night with sleeveless dress on .Took a cardi with me the first night but just carried it .Rest of the week, I just left it in hotel .

Yellowcakestand · 09/08/2023 00:29

I was in Gran Canaria first week of April, it was 25-30 but they said it was slightly hotter than usual

Roselilly36 · 09/08/2023 02:39

Been many times in Dec or Feb half term, always had great weather.

coxesorangepippin · 09/08/2023 03:04

Parents always go at that time and love it. Swim every day etc

pompomdaisy · 09/08/2023 03:09

We went to Lanzarote in March and I was snorkelling. I found the sea warmer than the pool. It was nice and reasonably warm at 24. It was a snow blizzard at home in the uk so flight diverted in uk on returning.

Netaporter · 09/08/2023 03:12

Lanzarote is ‘the windy island’ and even if the temp is late 20’s it still feels chilly because of the wind chill factor. I used to go to Tenerife early feb each year. Weather was generally pleasant to hot. Definitely try and get a heated pool though as pp’s have said.

HollieHobbie · 09/08/2023 05:23

Southern Tenerife resorts are slightly warmer - Playa de las Americas, Los Cristianos, Costa Adeje etc. I've been in January too and it's been highs of 24°, March has sometimes been highs of around 26° so plenty warm enough. We only go now in November or January now as DH can't deal with it any warmer than that (poor old thing ☺️) but still have a good warm and sunny holiday!

TheOpenRoad · 09/08/2023 06:05

I went in March and it was like UK spring, nice and warm if you're in a secluded spot in the sun but otherwise a jacket was needed. Cold wind. Water was cold so didn't swim and had to wrap up sitting by the pool

crew2022 · 09/08/2023 06:09

I go to Tenerife in early January and it's definitely warm enough to lie outside and sunbathe! Evenings I always take a jacket or jumper but it's great for winter sun.

itsgettingweird · 09/08/2023 06:14

I lived there for a long time.

If sunny it'll be 20° there abouts. It'll be pleasant during the day but agree you'll want a heated pool.

However - like anywhere weather is not guaranteed. When it's windy it can feel cold that time of year if your at the pool and wet. And when it rains it rains!!!! But I doesn't rain much and it'll be all year round you'll get these random downpours!

If you choose SW coast (Costa Adeje area) you'll get the better weather.

3rdtimemumma · 09/08/2023 06:28

I've been to tenerife and fuerteventura for Feb half term. As others have said, you are best on the south coast in tenerife for sunshine and heated pools. We went north coast and non- heated pool (reactions before we went were the worst part!) , but still weather was good enough to have a fab time- 1 day of rain and lots of pool days, left relaxed with suntans. There was snow and ice on Mount teide in the middle of the island and so cable car wasn't running, but lovely for the kids to build a snowman and play in the pool the same day. Mount teide is what makes the North so much cooler and different weather systems apparently. So Los Cristianos etc. Is best.

Fuerteventura in Feb half term twice too. One day was cold, others pool days but again, kids loved it, relaxing and left with a tan. Not much to do on fuerteventura compared to tenerife. But fuerteventura actually means "strong winds" in Spanish and boy, they were strong occasionally. We found a sheltered area by the kids pool and it was amazing, hot, no wind, but i shivered every time I was waiting at the bar and the wind got me. I'd defo do tenerife again and fuerteventura i'd do as a last-minute deal if accuweather showed weather is good, as weather very up and down and week before was cold. This was why we went for it as forecast was good for the week (except day 1).

3rdtimemumma · 09/08/2023 06:32

Omg, I've just looked it up and apparently fuerteventura means "strong fortune" not strong winds. But still, it should mean strong winds and it is very popular with windsurfers because of them....

GreggingIt · 09/08/2023 07:31

Regularly go to the Canaries between Jan-Mar and always had good weather. Went this year first 2 weeks of Easter and was easily mid-20’s. Pools may be cold if not heated but doesn’t bother me.

South Tenerife (Costa Adeje area etc.) much warmer and less windy than the north coast.

Lughnasa · 09/08/2023 08:07

One thing OP ( also a single parent) I’ve been at Easter and summer and it isn’t really any quieter/less busy at Easter than summer as it’s one of the few places where you have a chance of sunshine at that time of year. Quietest I found was last week of school summer holidays as I think a lot of European countries had gone back at that point/lots of people seem to avoid the last week.

It’s very easy there as a single parent though. Only thing that’s a pain when DC are younger ( if you have more than one) is if you/one of them need the toilet you all have to trudge there. May half term is a great time to go as it’s that bit warmer and more reliable weather but not as hot as summer.
