Was at a 3 day wedding. Consumed all my trigger foods including spicy food and dairy. I ate too much I can see that now.
However, I have Ibs and have had 3 days of horrendous watery diarrhoea all day and all night. GP thinks my intestines have inflamed because of the spicy food and dairy. Says give it 7-10 days to heal.
does that sound right? Can very spicy foods cause inflammation? I feel too embarrassed to ask if anyone else has experienced this, because I know no one else is this careless and stupid.

I’m definitely lactose intolerant could be allergic to cow milk protein too. But can that trigger days of diarrhoea even though I haven’t eaten food since the day it started? I thought you have diarrhoea the following day and that’s it?

It usually takes 2 weeks to fully get rid of any dairy products from your system. Having said that a friend of mine has a lactose intolerance and if they have standard milk then they have diarrhoea for one episode but almost straight away. Then they're OK.
I do think that 5 spicy foods can cause inflammation in ibs-d. Each person with ibs-d or ibs-c has different individual triggers so even 2 people with ibs-d can have different foods that set them off plus stress can be a trigger. I have ibs-c and my trigger is bread products. Its such a tricky thing to find out your triggers.
It's not stupid to ask, you just wanted to have a good time and join in and maybe didnt have access to your usual foods. Although wasn't the best thing to do ☺ but you've only harmed yourself.
Hope you feel better soon. Take it easy on yourself.

Have you got any medication which you use to calm things down? I find colofac or buscopan helpful in situations like this, they can help stop the gut spasms.

Do you have any very safe foods? For me that would be something like mash, or a fish pie (but dairy doesn't cause me any problems). Other people I know find rice or chicken okay?

I’ve had ibs for 25 years, I feel your pain. There is nothing worse than a flare when all you’ve wanted to do is to eat ‘normal’ like everyone else. I find the imodium dual action is the best for diarrhoea and the addition of simethicone really helps. Have you tried Silicol gel? Taste like wallpaper paste but really helps settle an inflamed gut. Also slippery elm helps to.
I did this back in May, it’s took me months to get back to normal and I’m still not 100% (even ended up having another colonoscopy last month as I’d convinced myself something was wrong!).

Eat a very basic diet for a few days and try an antacid

The BRAT diet acronym stands for bananas, rice, applesauce and toast,” says Lena Beal, M.S., RD, LD, a Piedmont therapeutic dietitian. “Historically, it was used in pediatrics when kids got sick and couldn't tolerate anything. But this diet is helpful for anyone who has nausea, vomiting or diarrhea.

No never tried silicol gel. Sounds promising. Anything to calm the inflammation and diarrhoea down.

I tried boiled rice but with some boiled chicken pieces. Made diarrhoea worse. Was either too early to start foods again or the chicken was too heavy to have just yet.
