Digestive feelings that feel like phantom baby kicks?

BlueJellycat · 08/08/2023 12:04

I'm going to start by saying I can't possibly be pregnant as I have had two regular periods in the last two / three months. Two months ago I even passed an alarmingly large clot and took a photo so I'm sure I'm having regular periods.

However I'm getting what feels phantom kicks. I have occasionally had these since I was first pg. The fluttering feeling of kicks and rolling sensations etc.

But this ramping up, to the point I'm pressing on my tummy to see if I can feel it at the time, which of course I can't. It's nearly always on my left so my large intestine, bowels. It's a very strange feeling. Anyone else get this? I was on a plane yesterday and it did feel like proper 6 months pregnant kicks.

I get this sometimes. Really weird. It’s just gas but feels so similar to baby kicks at times!

Mrsjayy · 08/08/2023 12:06

It might be trapped wind bubbling its way through. I have a bowel condition and get this.

Mrsjayy · 08/08/2023 12:07

I'm not meaning you have anything wrong with your bowel 😳

I used to get a lot of these type of pains. Not as many any more. I have an issue with my colon so it was that.

Monitor your temperature. Take daily readings several times a day to see if the thermoter shows anything.

My condition was only found my chance because I found a fever that I couldn't associate with anything else. It was connected with my GI issue and belly.

eandz13 · 08/08/2023 12:18

I don't have any bowel/gastro conditions and I get this all the time, I mean almost every day, especially if I've had a heavy meal that's settling or something very fibrous. It does feel like a baby kicking and I can feel it with my hand too. I thought everyone had this occasionally!

BlueJellycat · 08/08/2023 12:29

@Funco I will do, what am I looking for?

@eandz13 I think we all do and it is normal. I was reading a research article on it last month ( i was Googling so its been on my mind for a while) and its very common. But right now, at times, I feel like I have third trimester kicks. Very sudden and forceful like five strong kicks in one position in 5 seconds. Normally I just get little flutters or a feeling like a baby is rolling. This is super real at times.

I get this too. Feels exactly like a baby's kick. Definitely not pregnant.

Gemzee · 08/08/2023 12:36

I get this! Was so confused by it - my son is 5. My husband has had the snip (and I have regular periods) so I'm definitely not pregnant. Odd feeling.

DuploTrain · 08/08/2023 12:36

I get trapped/bubbling wind that feels a lot like kicks. I am actually pregnant, but not far along enough for kicks. And I had it before this pregnancy.

I think it started after I was pregnant the first time - my digestive system must have changed after it was completely rearranged to accommodate the baby.

mauricemossmylove · 08/08/2023 12:38

I get this too, sometimes really convincing baby kicks! I have a condition that causes muscle spasms so put it down to that.

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 08/08/2023 12:38

I had this the other day! It was like the feeling when a baby sticks their foot out and you can count the toes. I honestly expected to see my stomach bulging and moving.

And I don't have a large intestine anymore! So god knows what the hell it was Confused

@BlueJellycat I am perimenopausal and a couple of years ago I went through about 3-4 months of what felt like third trimester kicking, rolling and fluttering. I remember Googling on the topic incessantly and finding a very old thread on Mumsnet which was reassuring as it genuinely felt like I had a baby in my tummy. I spoke to some family members who are medics and they were quite casual about it all and basically said they are phantom kicks/could be digestive but I didn’t have any other GI symptoms. They eventually subsided although I periodically get the sensation. I had very invasive and difficult C-sections and I wonder if it’s perhaps a throwback to that. So just to reassure you that you’re not going mad, they do happen and it is very disconcerting!!!

I was considering taking a preg test last night as I was getting some very real kick feelings! So convincing. I have the implant so I'm sure I couldn't be

randomusernam · 08/08/2023 15:03

Being on a plane will make them worse, the increase in pressure will intensify the feeling of kicks. I often get big popping feelings when I go on a plane.

Me too! I was wo during how I'd break the news to my eldest who is 19 and if the baby could share with the 9 year old! Feeling more sensible today it's calmed down.

@randomusernam yes your right. It was the worse in flight. I was wondering if I could give birth at the gally at the back at one point 😆

I occasionally get digestive “moments” when a section of my abdomen visibly bulges outwards and ripples down. Basically I am seeing a bulge of something moving down my gut. It’s just like when the baby shifts position in later pregnancy. Blooming weird.

Boriswentcamping · 08/08/2023 15:26

Random guess and not necessarily correct but I think it might be thinning of the linea alba as it stretches and separates during pregnancy meaning you feel digestion through the thinner tissues Could also be hernia related especially if you feel a small lump?

WalnutBlue · 08/08/2023 15:52

I used to get this after having my ds but its calmed down now.
Think my stomach muscles were more separated so I was feeling digestion, gas etc.
