How are Asda own items more expensive than brand items now?

Don't usually shop there but nipped in for stuff to make tacos yesterday.

12 Old El Paso taco shells £1.90
12 Asda taco shells £2.10

I mean who is going to choose the Asda ones? Isn't the whole point of own brand to be a cheaper alternative to branded?

I've noticed Asda going downhill too, they used to be my go to for deliveries when I can't be bothered walking to Aldi. Seems Sainsbury's are better these days.

I love asda but they have really increased the price. A lot. And frequently too! We are 6 kids, 2 adults and it is so difficult because of cost of living, we are spending between 200 to 250 a week on food. I think they increase the prices every week because every time I shop online, I feel like its gone Up! But I dont want to shop anywhere else to be honest.

I find some of their own brand expensive and certain named brands cheaper. I also think their own essentials have gone up and they're not great either. Bland and plastic-y.

I also have to send stuff back because the substitutes are bizzare also! We order halal chicken mini fillets and they give us pork stuffed chicken whole. Or give us pepperoni pizza. Its not like I am going to burst into fire at them when they deliver to us, but I have to then cancel it and get the refund to then go out again to town which is half hour drive just to get the pizza again myself!
I'd be happy with another cheese pizza, they can't be completely out of every single cheese pizza!

I do however like the cashpot idea! But does anyone know if its only on selected items? Is it not like Tesco club card points, does anyone know? I don't shop at tesco or know about club card really.

If you want deliveries you are limited. BUT seriously check out others if you need to save money

I remember the first Eurogarage in Bolton that was owned by the Issa brothers who now own Asda. It was comedically expensive and shit, even by motorway service station standards. So it seems that's now their aim for Asda.

@PopsicleHustler some Tescos have proper Halal butchery counters and I've also seen it in Sainsburys and M&S. You need to look in areas where there's likely to be a decent demand for it as a lot of supermarkets choose their stock according to what the local population is likely to buy.
