Best treatment for molluscum contagiousum?

DS Is suffering with these on his torso for the last 7 months. GP says they will go on their own and that there isn’t a treatment- however they seem to be spreading.

Any success stories out there of treatment that actually works?

@Brunoandthebigfoot I'm lucky he's a sound sleeper. He did bat my hand away once or twice when I tried and it felt really mean, though he never woke up - he was so desperate to get rid of them though as people in school kept asking what it was and he wanted me to keep trying at night!

Did you need wait till they were close to erupting to squeeze them? And do you keep going till it’s just blood. Sorry this is TMI!!

just did one and took out a white hard but then a small white ball then squeezed again so I clashed with surgical spirit and put a plaster on. Does that sound right? Let me know if I should be doing anything different.

will this need to be done with them all individually? There appears to be some new ones emerging and one on his neck. I was hoping we’d avoid the face/neck.

we go away on holiday soon. He’s gutted he’s going to have to wear a swim too but I just don’t want him spreading to anyone else. I’m assuming it does spread that easily?

Blimey! You’re both hardcore. I salute you 🤣

@zippyswife yes, that sounds like what we did. After the first couple, it didn't take long for them most of them to start getting to that point. I also put those little spot plasters (like dots for spots) overnight on the ones that weren't erupting and that seemed to draw out the tip of the white core quickly to get them to a point I could tweeze it out. There was a period of few days where his neck and chin looked awful and he was covered in plasters but they soon disappeared and any new ones appearing then sort of went away by themselves. No scars or any trace of them now.

I became quite obsessed with trying to find a cure as he had some really awful ones on his face and it's so hard if other people notice and ask questions. It was so frustrating to find lots of local skin clinics and dermatologists who would freeze them off but only once they reached 11.

I read that they spread really easily so was worried that he'd pass them to his sibling as they didn't seem to take any care at all not to avoid sharing towels etc - i think some just are immune so we may have just been lucky. None of his friends have developed it either. I let him swim with school as advised by the GP.

Please keep an eye on them as they are healing. My daughter had one on her leg that looked as though it was healing, but had developed into an abscess. It took two lots of antibiotics, and seven months of dressings at the hospital before it healed.

anything that works works by making your immune system recognise that they are there and react against them. Apple cider vinegar is an astringent so fulfills that role. One getting infected can also prompt it. Although not advised I squeezed a couple of particularly juicy ones and then the rest all flared up and disappeared in a few weeks.

Like this, we used tea tree oil with aspirin ground into it, under a plaster. It irritated his skin slightly, then that patch cleared.

Once one has gone, the body recognises the others and they usually follow. He'd had them over a year.

We did the same for verrucas.

i thought I’d update and maybe get a bit more advice. So tried the irritating them/squeezing them and they seemed to flare and got to the point I could tweeze them. He then had a rash all over his armpit which I’d read meant that it was the end rash…. But there appears to be new ones that have come up 😭. Not sure whether to leave them to come and go or keep on them. Any ideas?

When DD had them, I dabbed each one with tea tree oil every day. Used a cotton bud. They were gone in a couple of weeks.
