Literally everything

My 10yo recently saw DHs tax statement. Her face was a picture, she was horrified about how much went to the tax office each year!

For me.... swimming lessons!

Red peppers! I remember going to the supermarket as a student and being amazed at how expensive they were

MissDollyMix · 03/10/2023 06:58

I always remember my housemate at uni saying she suddenly understood why her mum got so tetchy about breakfast cereals once she’d realised how expensive branded cereals were!

Buying an interview suit (it was the 80s).

What? I can't understand the thread title.

@decionsdecisions62

Are you lacking basic comprehension, do you never get a text where autocorrect has gone rogue and yet managed to figure out the meaning of the message ?

Goodness me. 🙄

Food. Curtain poles and blinds for our first flat were a shock. Nothing beats children though. School shoes.

BarelyCoping123 · 03/10/2023 13:50

Household repairs, maintenance etc. A black hole

FussyPud · 03/10/2023 14:27

Underwear. Decent bras are hideously expensive if you’re outwith standard sizes.

Gillstuck · 03/10/2023 14:28

School uniforms

The first time I lived on my own, I was young and naive and thought you just paid rent and that was that. It was 1976. My rent was $200/mo.
It was summer and blazing hot where I lived in California and one day I got a letter in the mail from this company called Pacific Gas & Electric telling me I owed them $80 for the electricity.
You have to pay for the lights & air conditioning? I had no absolutely idea.
After that I was a lot more judicious with the A/C.
