Can I stay in New York

Hi

Does anyone know if I can stay in NYC on a 90 day visa, then go out the country for a few days, then go back for another 90 days?

I'm live in UK

Others have said to just go and do it but I'd rather it was above board

if you go and just stay, then it will be noted when you do leave and you will be banned from entering the US

Are there many volunteering opportunities for foreigners in NYC? It doesn't seem the obvious choice for altruistic ventures, but I may be wrong.

Can you not just apply for a B visa? I'm always applying for them for my bosses and their family members (not UK). We never seem to have any issues, though they're all wealthy, which may make a difference to applications.

I'm going to look into the form process now and good to know you've had success in the past.

The 3rd time you enter in a 2 month period you are meant to be stopped automatically

Yeah, US immigration are going to accept that 🤣. Fucking hell OP

You haven’t really thought this through properly have you? You will be in serious trouble if you work/volunteer without the correct visa in place.

It's why I'm asking questions

They accept it for 90 days. You can work during that time. I was asking if I could do it twice with a few days break

I think you will find it hard to get a regular volunteering role on a tourist visa, because many large organisations will not accept you if you’re not legally allowed to work. I agree you should find a legitimate way to get a visa.

I lived in NYC a few years ago and while I was waiting for my visa to arrive (through my husband’s work), I volunteered for a charity and also some evenings tutoring kids .

don’t go without a proper visa, but once there, there are countless of volunteering opportunities. Make sure you have personal references though.

I think I just googled volunteer in Manhattan on Google.

You can’t work on a 90 day esta visa. If you arrive, don’t have sufficient funds, are carrying anything like a CV / application funds and can’t give a clear answer about what you’ll be doing there, they will pull you for secondary questioning and worse case not let you in

Just to clarify my experience.

I had a visa arranged through my husband’s work to live in the US, but once there, it took 3 months for my working visa to arrive and that’s when I volunteered.

I can’t remember if I was asked to show anything when I applied for the roles.

I had 5yr B visa when my then bf (now DH) took a 2yr job contract in the US. This what you’d need. Mine was straightforward but they were satisfied that I didn’t have long term plans to stay, I would leave when his contract ended. It didn’t stop the immigration officer giving me a bit of a grilling when I landed there then. Even with a visa they can still deny you entry if they don’t believe your intentions. You also need to be very sure you will get the visa if you apply. If you are denied then an ESTA may be denied in future as one of the questions asks if you have ever been denied a visa.

Sorry the negativity but the US is not an easy country to move to, even for the short term.
