Am I mad going to NYC in February?

Cheaper
Less crowds
Hate hot weather anyway
Love the dark nights with all the lights
Will wrap up warm
Will purchase woolly hat

Am I missing anything? Is it THAT cold? Is everything open? Is it safe to walk around alone at night?

My friend went to NYC in February and couldn’t enjoy it as it was so cold. It was snowstorms & the streets were full of slush & ice. Ended up spending the majority of the time in the hotel & getting taxis to other indoor places.

I have been 3 times towards the end of March to take advantage of the cheaper prices. One time it was T-shirt weather during the day & jacket weather at night, the other 2 times it was jacket weather both day & night. There was one day in particular it was freezing cold and I bought a scarf to wrap around my ears!

I've been twice in February, once it was just 'normal winter cold' and once it was oh my goodness absolutely freeeeeezing!! But as long as you're prepared, you'll be fine, enjoy!

I’ve been, many years ago, at Easter. Snow on the ground, very cold but doable. The snow was banked up 12 foot or more high. As long as you’re aware what the weather can be and pack accordingly you will be fine.

When I went in very heavy February snow, I was so impressed with the sidewalks and roads being cleared efficiently. I thought it a good time to visit. Central Park was stunning in the snow.

Thanks for all advice so far! One thing... I'm finding the subway network so confusing! Is it as complicated as it seems to be? A train this, 1 and 2 that. Mind is blown

If you’re used to the tube, it’s really similar. The lines are just numbers and a colour

the color indicates route, and the number is usually to differentiate between local and express trains

^ is really important as local trains stop at every station on the route, express trains will only stop at main stations like grand central, penn station etc

They’re not as advanced with real time train info but it’ll be fine. Lots of people are. v helpful

Top tip - if a train pulls in and it’s a busy travel time and the carriage is empty DO NOT get on that carriage. Usually means horrific smell
or worse
