Since going through the menopause I've been suffering some weird irrational fears. One such fear is motorway driving. I have always really enjoyed it before and been fully confident, I've been really glad for the freedom it's given me and made many journeys long and short on the motorways.
Anyway that all changed a year or two ago and I've suffered from a serious of crippling panic attacks, some which have made me have to pull over on the motorway. I've even had to extend the journey by another day as I just couldn't find it in me to get back on.
Anyway last week I did a three hour journey. On the way was fine drove the whole way on the motorway. On the way back I did however lose a bit of my nerve and drove the last hour back on the a roads but I DID IT!
I was listening to a hypnosis podcast on Spotify for a few weeks before hand and can't say if that's what did it for definite but if anyone else struggles it's definitely worth a try- it's called driving anxiety hypnosis and it's by a guy called Adam Cox

Well done! I'll have to check out the podcast as I've developed the same problem.

Well done OP.
Lockdown added to it for me! I hated motorway driving after many months of isolation - was quite terrified - and I've always been a confident driver. But I persisted and the initial lack of traffic helped. I now motorway drive 4 - 6 times a week and am fine.
It's such an achievement to overcome a fear.

MarnieMooMoo · 06/08/2023 17:46

Well done, I know what an achievement that is - I have the same issue with motorways and dual carriageways - after driving tens of thousands of miles on all sorts of roads and conditions, it came out of nowhere a few years ago. I have to carefully plan routes to avoid motorways and dual carriageways.

I will definitely check out the podcast.

Testosterone plummets in menopause. I have really noticed the difference in how cautious I have become. I don't walk on country paths alone any more because I have seen lone men and gangs of youths walking that I don't like the look of. I avoid big dogs now. If I see someone with a huge fighting dog, I do a 180 and head the other way. I don;t eve care if they see me do it. I know why testosterone reduction causes this but I hate it. Well done on your motorways driving.

Same here
Before I would happily walk home alone from my local at night- I wouldn't now

@FrancisSeaton , thanks for the recommendation. I’ve found this on Spotify, is the podcast a full hypno session or do you have to pay/subscribe to hear it?
