How many people, and how many TVs in your house?

We currently have a TV in our main family sitting room and one in our bedroom. We're finding increasingly that the DC are dragging tonnes of toys through from the playroom into the sitting room and creating a holy mess. Thinking of getting a TV in the playroom for them but not sure. There are 3 of them and although it's nice to sit and watch the odd film with them, they'll often watch 20 mins or so then create carnage around us- it would be nice to put their film on in the playroom and then retire to the sitting room to enjoy some peace and quiet while they play 🤔 Wondering if this theory will actually work or not though. 3 TVs in a house of 5 is not excessive is it? DS (aged 6!) has asked for one in his bedroom which is an absolute hard no!

We have four in a house of five - one in the sitting room, one in the playroom, one in our bedroom and one in 16yo DSS's bedroom.

Our 7yo rotates between the three tvs in the playroom, sitting room and our bedroom depending on where we are - she just likes to be near us. We are very strict about there not being toys in the sitting room though so she and her sister do play in the playroom if they're playing (often with the tv on 🙄) and then come and sit with us to watch things as a family in the sitting room.

Living room only, kids weren't allowed tv unsupervised so no point having it elsewhere, I restricted watching anyway. By the time they hit teens tablets had been invented and they could watch on those in their room, though rarely did - they are gamers not tv watchers

elliejjtiny · 08/08/2023 22:41

7 of us, 3 tv's. 1 in living room, 1 in 17 and 15 year olds bedroom, mainly used for the x box but occasionally for dvd's. 1 in our bedroom that we very rarely use.

Crapsummer · 08/08/2023 22:41

5 people. 4 TV

gogomoto · 08/08/2023 22:41

Adults now, still one tv

Shangrilalala · 08/08/2023 22:41

We have 6 TVs and four of us. But - none in bedrooms, apart from ours. We were always keen that the DC wouldn’t have them in their own rooms. There’s one in a gym and one in a cinema room. I’m embarrassed by the number but none of us are great television watchers.

Ponderingwindow · 08/08/2023 22:42

3 people, 6 TVs.

its not about who wants to watch, it’s about where they want to be in the house for us

NancyJoan · 08/08/2023 22:42

4 of us (two teens), 2 tvs. One in the sitting room, one in the playroom with Xbox. Like you I got fed up with all the toys escaping the playroom, though they actually wanted me with them. Now they are teens neither really watches the box, so DH sits watching cycling and I sit in silence in the opposite room.

mrsfollowill · 08/08/2023 22:42

3 adults ( me, DH & DS) one big TV in sitting room. It's on in the background - all day as I WFH and like a bit of a hum in the background but don't actually watch it. Sometime we all watch a film together or get into a particular series. No TV's in any bedrooms- both me and DS struggle with insomnia at times so bedrooms are just for sleeping.

PerspiringElizabeth · 08/08/2023 22:43

3 kids, 3 TVs, 2 used. The one in the playroom is the one that is rarely used!

WimbledonPimms · 08/08/2023 22:45

House of seven, there are TVs in the living room and snug, 5 in bedrooms but also computer monitors are used - there are 11 I think so 18 in total plus iPads. Blush I have been known to also use an iPad to stream darts with football on the main tv and tennis on a pc monitor 🙈

UndercoverCop · 08/08/2023 22:48

We have one TV , 3 people. Thought we also had one in the bedroom which rarely gets used until I tried to use it recently when DS was poorly, it doesn't work. I probably will replace it, it was nice in winter when we'd been on a freezing beach walk to snuggle up and watch a film.

I wonder how many people saying they have a smaller amount of TVs and larger households have other devices being used for viewing eg laptops tablets etc.
We only have work laptops which are very heavily restricted so you can't stream etc on them. None of us have tablets/iPads DH does have a gaming PC but it's on a desk in a spare room so only used for that, or basic PC needs.

It's why I wanted a TV in the bedroom for occasional use. You might have a household with 3 adults and 2 teens and one TV and it's fine because everyone has an iPad/laptop

WotNoUserName · 08/08/2023 22:49

6 of us. One TV in the living room.

I don't really watch much.

I told my kids they could have a tv in their bedroom when they could afford to buy one themselves. 3 have jobs now and haven't - they use laptops/tablets in their bedroom, or come down and watch in the living room.

cinnamonfrenchtoast · 08/08/2023 22:50

Two people, three TV's.

One in the living room, one in the bedroom, and one in the spare room/gym.

daermill · 08/08/2023 22:51

Family of 5, one TV. Tbh we had planned to put the TV in the playroom when we moved here (our last flat just had one recepton room) but we never got around to fixing one to the wall and then I realised it was quite nice to have it free of screens. Our dc are younger (eldest is 5) and we spend most of our dc's waking time in the playroom/kitchen - the living room is only really used once they're in bed.

Tulipvase · 08/08/2023 22:51

2 adults and 17, 15 and 12 year old. Main tv in living room, youngest has one in his room but rarely used but he does have a monitor and a laptop. Second youngest has 2 monitors and eldest has a tv but uses it as a monitor with an a
x box. Kids don’t seem to watch Tv - YouTube, Netflix, prime but not TV.

thaegumathteth · 08/08/2023 22:52

We had a playroom with a tv. Think TV was used once! About 3 years after converting the playroom my youngest turned to me enlightened and said 'is it called a playroom cos we're meant to play in it?!' With a disbelieving laugh.

Wambamcam · 08/08/2023 22:52

3 TVs and 3 people in the house, BUT we only had one, in the living room, for basically all of DDs childhood. We got one for our bedroom when she was about 15 and then she got one for her bedroom a year or two after with her money from her first job.

Tinytigertail · 08/08/2023 22:52

1tv for 4 of us. Our YAs watch stuff on their phones and will sometimes join us to watch something on the TV in the living room

daffodilandtulip · 08/08/2023 22:54

Just me and two teens here. We just have one in the lounge. They use their iPads to access YouTube and Neltflix but they've never been bothered about having one in their room.

crazeekat · 08/08/2023 22:54

4 of us. 4 tvs, living room and 1 in each bedroom. both kids have a phone and a tablet. they get to use one at a time.
actually came
into my
11 year olds dd bedroom and she had the tv on, sitting on her phone and her alexa blaring. if they have a phone the tv is off. or whatever.my hubby and i like total opposites of stuff on tv. i have tv on for background, but rarely sit and watch anything. hubby has it on if he wants to watch something specific.

OhSmitty · 08/08/2023 22:55

4 people.

3 TVs, 3 PCs, a phone each and 5 tablets.
The TVs we have in the lounge, den and our bedroom.

Figgygal · 08/08/2023 22:59

We have 3
Main tv in lounge
Ds bought himself one last year with bday/xmas money in his room but he just uses it for xbox
3rd In our dining room/family room was previously ds xbox tv and is never used now other than occasionally if I'm dodging some sport event coverage

RockyOfTheRovers · 08/08/2023 23:02

Currently, four people and one television. We also have a firestick in the garden office so that the computer monitor can be used for Netflix etc.
I’ve never wanted a TV in a bedroom until very recently, but I currently sit in our bedroom watching movies on my phone, which is ridiculous, so will probably get a TV in there at some point.

continentallentil · 08/08/2023 23:04

4 of us

Just one

lots of screens as it is and I wouldn’t want them watching unsupervised when little.
