Anyone else have miscarriages but successful pregnancies in between?

I've just had my third miscarriage (plus a few chemical pregnancies). First one I miscarried at 8 weeks after seeing a heartbeat the week before, I had a D&C but I think it would have happened naturally if I'd waited a day or two. Then I had DD. Second one I had a missed miscarriage that never developed and eventually had a D&C at 9 weeks. Then I had DS. My third miscarriage everything was fine until my 18 week scan and the baby had died. I delivered him but then needed a D&C for the placenta.

I don't know if there could be a reason or if it's just bad luck? Clearly my body can have successful pregnancies but I just miscarry a lot. My Dr didn't recommend getting any tests or anything as they're not consecutive so they're probably just bad luck but I'd be interested to know if anyone else has experienced the same and discovered a reason why.

Yes.
I also had investigations but found nothing wrong or a reason for my losses.

The theory was poor egg quality. That was purely theory & guess work on behalf of the professionals.

I put it down to a million to one luck that I had my children.

Yes I wonder if egg quality is playing a role. I'm only in my early thirties though.

Not quite the same, but I lost my first pregnancy, then had my eldest, then lost 4 more babies and had investigations. They found out I have Factor V Leiden, a blood clotting disorder, so for my next pregnancy I had to inject blood thinners and that way I was able to have my youngest. The doctor said he didn't know how I'd managed to have my eldest and that she was a miracle.

My mum then got treated and she also has Factor V Leiden. But she never had any miscarriages.

So it could be a blood clotting issue which I was told is the main reason for miscarriages among those women for whom they can find a reason.

Have you asked for testing?

I asked when I was in the hospital after delivering DS2 but the Dr said she didn't think there was any point. I might see about getting a second opinion and ask about clotting disorders (I'm not in the UK). I take low dose aspirin when I'm pregnant. Well I did with my two living children and the latest miscarriage. The other two miscarriages I didn't take it.

Yes very similar, the tried Agnus castus and I had my first baby, pregnant a month after my 3rd miscarriage. The second baby I had, I'd had a few more pregnancies that didn't work out, but had my second baby 3.5 years after the first.
I was 35 and 39 when I fell pregnant

I had two MC in between baby 2 and 3. I took mini aspirin in the first trimester for baby 3 and managed to carry to term
best of luck it’s really hard xx

I had dd - miscarriage - dd - miscarriage - dd
getting pregnant quickly each time for which I’m grateful.

I don’t think it’s scientific but I often wonder if the miscarries were boys and maybe I can’t carry boys, or maybe there was something genetic with me or my then husband which meant boys weren’t viable

FloofCloud · 06/08/2023 10:26

Ah yes, I also had low aspirin and high folic acid - I also had multiple early reassurance scans. Perhaps See if your local hospital is doing a research clinical trial that could be something for you that would support you.

It's nice to hear this happens to others too. I've found it really hard as I've tried to Google and everything is about recurrent miscarriages which these don't count as as I have successful pregnancies in between.

Yes. I had three successful pregnancies and two miscarriages over 10 years ish.

Successful pregnancy (twins)
Miscarriage at 7/8 weeks
Successful pregnancy (single)
Miscarriage at 6/7 weeks
Successful pregnancy (single)

I think miscarriage alongside successful pregnancy is really common, but rarely talked about. My family were really really dismissive of my first miscarriage because I already had twins, so they didn't seem to thing it mattered that I lost my baby. I didn't even tell them about the second miscarriage.

Lottie2shoes · 06/08/2023 11:54

Yes I have. It is very upsetting and hard but I am extra thankful for the babies that survived.

I have had a few miscarriages. I have just put it down to not meant to be.
Maybe it was me, maybe it was them, I do not know but whatever the reason. It does not make it any better knowing I believe.
I have had people saying it is better to have miscarriages than have children with life long disabilities, I do not know where I am in belief with that.
