13 year old dd is autistic so can just blurt things out at odd times but she has just walked into my bedroom (where i was asleep) flicked the light on and said that one side of her chest is aching when she breathes in maybe up into her neck. She said its not a serious pain but its been doing it since yesterday so she thought she should tell me. She said “it doesnt normally take effort to breathe”She isnt great at describing feelings so thats really all ive got.

she seems well , no temp doesnt really seem breathless at all dug out the finger monitor oxygen seems fine? She has now gone back to bed but im obviously wide awake wondering and worrying!

if she is still saying it monday i will call gp but do i need to do anything before then ? Its confusing because she has no signs of illness?

What did I bring up?
Jesus.

The OP's daughter has chest pain on breathing in. A number of people made suggestions as to what it could be. I added a suggestion based on what happened when my teen son had identical symptoms; in his case it was pericarditis. It was mild and self limiting but it is a possibility. I wasn't intending to do any point scoring. It's the same as any other 'what is this rash' type posts where I put a suggestion.

In saying that there has been an increase in teens getting pericarditis from COVID or COVID vaccine, I wasn't intending to be political, just factual. I probably could have stressed that it is still very rare. It's other posters leaping rabidly upon me and demanding receipts then making out I am an antivaxxer who have pulled the thread off course.

Reminder of my original post
"DS had mild pericarditis earlier this year, could be that? Increased number of cases in teens, probably linked to COVID / COVID vaccine"

OP, it probably isn't, but it's a question to have in your "could it be" arsenal when you seek medical attention. Pericarditis is not usually a terribly serious condition.

To be honest a spontaneous pneumothorax is way scarier a proposition. Yet no one demanded receipts on that suggestion.

What the heck.

I never understand these posts, why on earth would you seek medical advice from a bunch of random strangers on social media, I think it’s dangerous (granted on the rare occasion we get a view from a qualified physician)contact 111 that’s what it’s there for.

People usually end up calling 111 anyway @almostoverthehill

They just want someone to bounce off if they're alone and maybe reassurance they're not over or under reacting.

Sounds like OP took a sensible course.

Like I said, I think it’s dangerous MN wouldn’t be my first port of call for my child’s health

I don't think most OP's blindly follow the advice. It's a "kicking thoughts around" thing.

Breathing is OK, temp ok, happening for a day or so, pain one side on inhalation - it's probably muscular or a broken rib.

111 or GP is reasonable, watch for changes. Look up OPQRST for pain. It's what the docs will ask through so if you can start to gather info you will be prepared.

Take ideas here but not medical advice.
Overnight MN is weird (assuming UK hours).
