Do you get scared home alone?

Tilllly · 05/08/2023 21:28

I do
Not always - thankfully

But sometimes I'm just spooked
It's not as tho I live in the middle of nowhere

And I really don't think a psychopath is hiding in the attic till I turn the light off

Any tips? I hate it

Not really, I live in a block of flats and know most of the neighbours.

I did when I used to live in a shared house and everyone else was out.

Girasoli · 05/08/2023 21:32

Ah sorry you asked for tips - keep a lamp/light on and watch something funny or a romantic comedy on tv before bed?

blahblahblah1654 · 05/08/2023 21:35

Not really. I keep my lamp on m or tv on sometimes though. I like background light.

TryAgainAnotherDay · 05/08/2023 21:35

Hate been home alone. No tips I just try to watch comedy on TV until I'm really tired.

StSwithinsDay · 05/08/2023 21:37

No. Have 2 houses - one in a busy city suburb, the other in the depths of the country. Equally happy and secure in both when I am on my own.

Oblomov23 · 05/08/2023 21:39

No.

I do after a horror!

lastminutewednesday · 05/08/2023 21:41

I do in my current house. It's just got an off vibe about it. Weirdly in my old which was a 15th century pub and arguably more spooky in the classic fashion I felt right as rain.

Definitely avoid those! Never liked horror films

I wouldn't call it chronic anxiety.

I hate been home alone, I wouldn't say I suffer from anxiety just not used to it.

I know loads of people that have separated from partners, or moved out of family homes to be scared of living alone for a while until they got used to things.

Tilllly · 05/08/2023 21:43

@Emmamoo89 😂😂
I hear you

And run up the stairs

Blimey, imagine if everyone who didn’t like being home alone did that 😂

Mothercareyschickens · 05/08/2023 21:43

No, I have the hall light on, on a timer.

BearKey · 05/08/2023 21:44

I do. Even though I know it's completely irrational. I'm not on my own in the house at night very often.

My advice is, if you can, check everything in day light when it's not scary and I mean everywhere like in cupboards/ wardrobes, under beds etc (attic if you need to but I've never gone that far) and then check all doors and windows are locked. When it gets dark and late, you know full well there's no one there and it's not possible that anyone could have got in. Works for me!! Even though deep down I know there was never going to be anyone there.

(Writing this makes me feel like a complete nut case, but it is what it is!)

Talkwhilstyouwalk · 05/08/2023 21:44

I do. Not all the time but I don't like noises at night time and worry about burglars. I have neighbours....I think it's normal, not overly anxious....

Tilllly · 05/08/2023 21:44

@Oblomov23
Bit dramatic there!

Maybe install an alarm and security cameras.

purplecorkheart · 05/08/2023 21:45

It doesn't normally bother me. I do tend to close doors more if I am home alone for some reason though. If I am watching tv normally the sitting room door is open but if I am home alone I tend to close it. I have no idea why.

thaegumathteth · 05/08/2023 21:47

No. I used to when I was younger but now I haven't the tolerance to be scared of monsters 😂

Bonfire23 · 05/08/2023 21:48

No, I've always lived alone

CopperSeahorses · 05/08/2023 21:48

Since my husband died I actually find being on my own in the house easier than I did when he was alive. It's my safe space, the place where I feel most at peace, even random creaks and loud noises don't worry me like they used to I think I have got better at rationalising things since I have been on my own.

MillWood85 · 05/08/2023 21:51

DH has had a fair bit of time away from home recently, and I was horribly nervy at night to start with. I found leaving a light on overnight helped, putting a torch by the bed (we get loads of powercuts), and got a cheap security camera for the kitchen which covers the back door. I found that after 2 or 3 nights, I got used to it. Also, I did a last sweep at night checking every door/window so I didn't get settled and start thinking "did i lock the patio doors".

AtleastitsnotMonday · 05/08/2023 21:51

No, I love it!
