Think I might’ve accidentally mixed products whilst cleaning… what to do?

I was cleaning some rust patches off our heated towel rail in the bathroom with stardrops white vinegar spray. Stupidly, not even thinking, I picked up the wrong bottle to spray some more vinegar and accidentally covered the radiator in a layer of Flash Spray wipe done/anti bac spray. I’m not sure if the flash contains bleach, as when I realised the mistake I opened the window wide and closed the bathroom door.

On the back of the flash bottle it does say not to mix with bleach or any other cleaning products

Is anyone a cleaner or have the knowledge to know if this is ok or not? I know you’re not supposed to mix stuff and worried there’s chlorine gas now in my house

Please be kind, hormonal and tired :) thank you

the Stardrops doesn't have bleach in it & I just checked my Flash antibac and that doesn't seem to have either so you should be ok.

It's minuscule regardless as opening the window will have sorted anything.

My husband once poured bleach in to a toilet cleaner bottle. Not a good idea.

He felt very silly. And sick and dizzy for a while!

The opening of the window will have been sufficient to disperse any vapours.

I hope you're okay, this kind of small thing when you are a bit heightened-feeling can really make you feel urghhhh.

You'll be fine. The flash spray is pretty much detergent and mild disinfectant. If there had been chlorine release you would have been able to smell it immediately. Even then, a few squirts of spray would only have released a little bit and opening the windows would have dispersed it.

The reason for those warnings is that there have been some nasty incidents when cleaners mixed bleach with acidic cleaning stuff like Harpic in toilets, or put bleach down toilets when the plumbers had been using the strong acids they use to unblock or descale toilets.

I've done this in error and you could smell the chlorine gas immediately! Opening windows and closing internal doors was sufficient to get it sorted.

EEK! Yes, that is the Thing That You Definitely Must Not Do.
(why did he do it?)

You would know pretty fast if there was bleach. When I was in Uni one of my housemates mixed toilet cleaner and bleach while cleaning the downstairs loo. I was passing by in the hallway and could tell. Opening the window and keeping door closed sorted it.

crackofdoom · 05/08/2023 22:21

I'm sure I remember reading about someone who tried to unblock her toilet by chucking copious amounts of caustic soda, followed by copious amounts of a hydrochloric acid based toilet cleaner, down it at the same time.

Several houses had to be evacuated.

I mix bleach with flash dilution all the time. Never had an issue.
