Hi
I have a dental phobia all my life , last time I went was 7 years ago because top wisdom tooth was rotten and a molar needed removing too.
I paid privately for sedation to get this sorted and was done in the same appointment. Now fast forward 7 years I have big problems
bottom wisdom tooth has a big hole in and I think infected due to the pain at night and I have temperature not feeling well etc
also a molar next to it has a hole so think need these two extracted , also think I need a few fillings on other side too

I moved far away from the place I went 7 years ago which the dentist was specialist with dental phobia patients and I’ve looked at seen the dentist is now retired left that practice

I now live very rurally and no dentist in my area offer sedation I don’t even have a dentist because none taking on nhs and none here offer sedation.

i found a private dentist online around 40 mins away that do offer sedation obviously at a price I’m really scared to even contact them

the bottom wisdom tooth is through the gum but can they remove this at the dentist under sedation?
just worried about everything as I don’t drive so will need to get a bus or train to this place and no idea how many appointments will be needed etc

im so scared just thinking of calling them I get sweaty with anxiety
worried they will judge because my teeth are so awful and apart from that last dentist 7 years ago previous ones judged me and made me feel awful
just don’t know what to do

Trust me, the dentist had seen far worse teeth than yours. Fixing teeth is what they do and you're giving them teeth to fix. No need to be anxious about it.

As someone who used to be terrified of the dentist I've found all the private dentists I've attended in the UK kind and patient. I'm sure yours will be fantastic and they'll help you be pain free!

Previous dentists were probably old school. These days dentists really don’t judge, they are there to help.

if you have a temperature please contact 111, they deal with dental emergencies out of hours as well as generally unwell people. You may need antibiotics whilst you wait for an appointment.

A dr may be happy to give you a small amount of propranolol or something nearer the time to help you deal with the anxiety of the procedure? Call the dentist. The first appointment will be an examination and a chat and you will be able to see what you think about them.

I'm phobic too. I've just had a molar out with sedation and it was fine. Book in with the private dentist and stop worrying. You won't be judged.

You can get it under sedation no problem, they are used to seeing all sort of people with all sorts of teeth and all sorts of fear.

The worst thing is if you let this linger as believe me, if this becomes an all-singing all-dancing abscess you won't care about the dentist anymore, you'll want to extract it yourself. There is no pain like it, and I've got through childbirth with no pain relief a few times!

Another phobic here, was forced to go to a private dentist recently because my filled tooth broke off at the gum. I've not been in 10 years at least and I was terrified and told them so but the dentist was lovely, the needle didn't hurt anything like I remembered it had in the past. I swear they're a million times better than they used to be. I needed a few sessions of treatment and each time it got easier to go and I was less fearful. Please tell them how you feel, they won't judge, the are there to help. Good luck Flowers
