Help me out - what to do in Weymouth?

We are travelling down to Weymouth today (OH, DS7 and me) for a weeks holiday and the weather for the next few days is rubbish! We want to go to Sealife one day, but can anyone recommend any other places to visit when it's raining? Hopefully it will dry out and we can spend the end of the week on the beach!

@BlossomCloud
I agree it is more dramatic but when we went on a wet windy day the youngest DC (8) got blown over and we spent 6 hours in A+E with a head injury!

Oh gosh!

Shire hall in Dorchester is really good. It's an old courthouse with cells. Also, the Dorset Museum next door is very good.

Portland castle is also a good day out.

Thanks so much for all of these amazing suggestions! Turns out the weather is lovely today but we have plenty up our sleeves if we need it later in the week.

We went into the town last night to have some dinner but had no chance of getting a table without booking so will book for later in the week - any restaurant recommendations for us and a 7yo from you Weymouth experts?!

I have only been to Prezzo (we are limited as my children have allergies) but the children loved it as it is by the harbour so they had a good view and it was very family friendly

Glad you are having good weather Smile it's such a lovely beach!

Prezzo is fine, also Rockfish and Bacaro on the seafront aren't bad.

I like Billy Winters off the road to Portland if you don't mind a drive. Also if you feel like spending a bit more (and you like smashing crab and lobster shells with a hammer) the Crab House Cafe on the other side of the causeway is fab.

If you're still in town on Friday night, head for the Stone Pier cafe - underneath the Nothe Fort on the harbourside. Al fresco dining with live music, big pans of paella, great atmosphere. Worth getting there early (6ish) to get a picnic table.

Seaton tramway. It's about an hour from Weymouth but is fab!!!

If you are ethically minded, Monkey World is a primate sanctuary and rescues monkeys & chimpanzees. They are lovely people - linked to the TV prog. Please consider a visit!

The Bridge Inn does a lovely roast. If you're looking for lunch venues, the Lookout Cafe was great when we went a few years ago.

We did actually visit Monkey world last year while staying in Poole - it was a great day out!

We’re in Weymouth this week too 🙋🏻‍♀️ Did you find places to eat? We’ve mostly just been eating in the restaurant in the caravan park we’re staying in.

Have you been to Waffilicious? If you haven’t, I can highly recommend it! Billy Winters is lovely too for tea and cake (and other drinks - they have the most amazing cakes!) and the view is beautiful. I think I saw someone recommend it further up too.

The Smugglers Inn at Osmington was lovely last year. Approx 10 minute drive from Weymouth.

We went to Rockfish and Harvey's last week. Both good but Rockfish was fab! One thing that's worth mentioning is the bus fares - they've kept them at £2.50 for journeys all over Dorset so even Swanage, Poole, Dorchester etc can be reached for a day out. Wish we'd take. The bus up to Portland Bill as it was a trek and the car parks are very expensive. Yes you can even get On and off the tourist buses. Loved Abbotsbury Gardens and lots of child friendly sculptures eg Alice in Wonderland related. Didn't get to the Swannery but next time hopefully!

Go to Portland and protest about the Bibby Stockholm and its occupants?

Not exactly the fun holiday activity suggestion I was hoping for...

We've booked Nicetta for dinner tomorrow for our last evening here. Have loved the beach and would definitely come back to Weymouth again!

Also enjoyed the programme on Dorset last night and made a visit to Rossi's today. Would like to visit the money water gardens next time we are here.

I wondered how long it would be before the barge was mentioned! Though never too young to explain to a child about how nasty the Tories are, and avoid going nearby.
